we would't attend a school with such mindlessness but I admit, the private schools are getting worse too
claiming the zero tolerance finger rule is about safety is just plain ludicrous. its about mindless bots who don't want to have to make discretionary calls. Its about CYA because of lawsuits
I didn't see TD say yes, please show me where I missed it. I saw one other poster who was responding say yes, if he thought the rule was idiotic. Your allegation was toward TD.
Why are you singling out one person by name and ignoring the others who said yes?
Oh wait it you American posting this.... never mind - silly question.
Nice dodge.
That argument is to be made when the policy is proposed. Once it has been proposed, discussed and voted on - the issue is done. You do not have the right to make a discretionary call regarding a policy adopted by the school board regarding student safety. Its done.
If you do not like the school rules - you can
1- lobby the school to change them
2- lobby the school board to change them
3- find a school with rules more to your liking
4- home school your own children
But you do not have the discretion to tell your kids to disobey school rules and expect they can get away with it.
You mean dodge as in the big fast powerful vehicle which ran into your argument head on and destroyed it like a skunk getting run over by a 3,000 pound machine? Yup it was a nice Dodge and did its job quite well.
this is a message board. and its fair game to blast mindless bots for being mindless bots.
No, that's not what I mean, because that didn't happen. You have no answer.
I agree, the Ohio zero tolerance law needs to be amended. But in this case, if the school had actually followed the letter of the law, the boy would have been expelled without warning (zero tolerance). Instead, the school used common sense and warned the students, sent out three letters to parents over the course of a month warning them of the consequences if the students behaviour continued and still the boys ignored the warnings. So no, common sense didn't work and the school was forced to follow the law and suspend him. If he does it again, he'll be expelled. I don't have a problem with that.If a rule or law is wrong then I have no problem with my kids not obeying such. You don't get rid of bad laws/rules by sitting down and obeying them. Just ask Rosa Parks.
If my answer to you was any more in your face, the recipient would have serious lacerations. That is exactly what happened.
I accept your surrender.
You and I both know darn well that if this was not somehow connected to guns, neither you or lots of other gun lobby sycophants would give two craps about the topic. lets call a spade a spade and flush all this fascism and think for yourself crap down the toilet where it belongs.
That must be pretty hard to do with you laying face down in the muck and mud after getting run over by such a direct response.
Say the man who loves a mindless population. The rest of us would like thinkers. If we had more of them, idiotic finger pointing rules wouldn't exist.
If that makes you feel better.

and the anti gun idiocy that fuels this sort of thing at schools would be extinct

The truth always does. I simply want to discuss the topic and not make this about one poster - especially one who was not central to the exchange in the first place.

that is exactly what the school did. Obviously you do not agree with it, but that is what they did just the same. So if you disagree with a school policy you will instruct your kids to ignore it and even violate it. Wonderful. And some wonder why kids are unmanageable in school. :doh:shock::roll:
nice strawman. has nothing to do with my post or what i said.
I see this as a problem that is long overdue to be addressed. We've had enough examples of ridiculous administrations of these zero tolerance policies that schools should have revised them long ago.
Maybe you just read the headlines, eh?
Common sense dictates that children should follow the school rules and respect their elders and that includes teachers. So if society is going to pot then perhaps its because parents aren't teaching their kids how to behave in society.
I read the Ohio zero tolerance law and in it there's a provision for districts to create "alternative" schools where other schools in the district can send their delinquint and troubled students. I suspect that Devonshire Alternative Elementry school is one of those "alternative" schools, which suggests that dear innocent little Nathan has issues and a past that the article doesn't mention.
