Richard Jones sounds like my kind of guy. We need a few more of him around... and a few news bureaus who would publish the running total owed by the Federal government to the local departments who are doing their job for them.

Immigration Rights Protest In Butler County

Butler County has been getting a lot of attention for its sheriff's controversial crackdown on illegal immigration. Sheriff Richard Jones has billed the federal government for the cost of jailing illegal immigrants and has even rounded up and detained some illegal immigrants who were working at a construction site.

(snip)

Jones has drawn national attention for billing the federal government more than $150,000 since last year to cover jail costs for illegal immigrants charged with crimes. And just in the last couple of weeks his deputies detained 18 men who admitted to being here illegally.

The sheriff's department was called to a home-building site on the report of a fight when they discovered the illegal immigrants. But deputies had to release them that night because local law enforcement does not have the authority to detain illegal immigrants unless they're charged with a crime.

Another controversial crackdown on illegal immigration in Butler County is one proposed by county commissioner Michael Fox. It would require homebuilders to sign pledges that they will not hire illegal immigrants and the county would enforce it by conducting random spot checks.

(snip)

Fox says it costs taxpayers in Butler County over a half-million dollars a year just to jail illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) already has its eyes on that proposal, calling it illegal and in violation of civil rights.

I'll second that. The catch and release policy on the federal level is a disgrace - the illegals should be sent to Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who knows how to run a proper detention facility.

If their here illegally, charge them with Trespassing. There has to be some way to get them locked up.

The problem is that state, county and local authorities do not have the legal authority to enforce federal laws. And the way the feds have been (not) enforcing the existing laws is a disgrace.

We don't need a new immigration bill as much as we need to enforce the laws already on the books.

And the deflection is already beginning from the left, claiming, once again, it is a racist attack. Those that choose to say that must be doing some major crack. Maybe we don't want ANYONE here who doesn't belong?
Ignoring the laws don't do us any good. Time to start enforcing them. I'm e-mailing my cong and sen tonight and letting them know that if they don't get something done NOW they can forget my vote this year.
I want results on this, not the typical political footdragging until after the election where they can sit on their fat a.ss for a few more years.

You buncha racist hate mongers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(just thought Id throw that in there before a liberal said it)

now , you may continue.

i heard about this a few days ago. i am a progressive liberal, however, i agree with this. i think if illegals can outright break the law that way, then why cant we all. because it would lead to lawlessness. i cant figure out why people dont understand this... arent our jails filled with enough stuff ,and yes, stupid stuff.. but certainly there are enough americans ,and legals as well, for tax payers to be paying for without having to pay for illegals as well.
and besides it is unfair to others who desire to come to this country through legal channels and are still waiting ten years later...why is it okay for one group to just walk across our border, work, not pay taxes..and then we are further kicked in the *** by the money earned here, not being spent here, but going back to mexico..
i have a friend who goes there for business, and all kidding aside, i asked him if there was anyone left there.

Amazing how these ACLU rats try to state that non-citizens have rights.
