Somehow in the melee it has gotten overlooked that that it is not 6 ports that the UAE would control but 8 and those last 2 are in fact military installations.

Since a column raising an alarm about CFIUS’ decision appeared in this space last week, three new factors have come to light that compound the strategic folly of the UAE deal:

O First, in addition to the six affected ports mentioned above, two others would also have part of their operations managed by DP World – on behalf of none other than the U.S. Army. Under a newly extended contract, the owner of P and O will manage the movement of heavy armor, helicopters and other military materiel through the Texas seaports of Beaumont and Corpus Christie. How much would our enemies like to be able to sabotage such shipments?

If the US Army - which undoubtedly knows more about security than you do - is willing to trust this company, perhaps you simply don't know what you're talking about.

(BTW, this company would have no control over port security. And do we really need 50,000 different threads on this topic?)

They will not own or control any ports. They'll operate certain terminals within certain ports. Each port has several terminals owned and operated by companies from all over the world; including the UK, China and now UAE. The security will still be done half-assed by our Coast Guard and US Customs. Until they decide to inspect 100% of everything coming in through these terminals/ports we'll be at risk. They currently inspect about 5%. The fact that the UAE will operate a handfull of terminals is no worse than China operating them. Yet, not a soul; in congress or elsewhere; even blinked when that deal was done.
