O'Donnell raises $500K... umm $675K... I mean over $750K in first day!

Seriously though, what's wrong with promoting not masturbating? Just, asking. I mean, I don't see what the big deal about believing in self control is. I think it's awfully naive to believe people can control certain urges, but...

I see her stance as more one of self control than anything else.

The masterbation thing is idiotic. Self Control is saying don't go beat off so often that it starts negatively affecting your life. Telling people to never masterbate is pointless, and has no purpose at all other than toeing the line of rabid religious extremism. Showing restraint to keep yourself from doing a completely benign but enjoyable activity that is having no adverse affect on your life isn't some great message of will power, its pointlessly exerting yourself for no benefit.

Humans are animals, that doesn't mean we have to act like them.

I don't exactly see anyone promoting that we devour our young. Masturbation harms no one and can be soothing to the psyche.

.... sigh. So when did your husband stop beating you?

Okay, then, so then let me ask you more clearly than her.

Do you believe Masterbation is bad? Do you think its good or positive to advocate to completely forgo masterbating? Do you view masterbation as a "acting like an animal"?

I'm not saying she's picked a great cause here, I'm just asking what's wrong with saying "Hey, we all do it, we all enjoy it, but why not ya know, show self control and not do it?"

I mean, what's wrong with pushing for self control? Which is what this is about IMHO. Just cause you can do something.. doesn't mean you should. Or as frequently.

Argh, damn it Z, I'm not saying I'm all about this anti-masturbation kick. I just don't see why people get so in a huff when someone suggests "hey don't masturbate, show self control". I just find the reaction so... odd.

I see it as a self control issue.

I think it would be kinda of illegal were people doing it waiting in line at 7-11 so there is self control.

It's now up to $790,000... At this rate, she'll hit the million dollar mark by morning.

What this tells me, is that America is sick and tired of typical politicians and are willing to take a chance on anyone who might actually represent the people, rather than a political party or their own self interests.

UPDATE:

It just went up another $10K in the last 7 minutes.... Hard to keep up.

Christine O'Donnell for U.S. Senate — Fighting For The First State

.

of course she represents her own self interest...she needs a job, for god's sake. and wait until the guns come out and she is completely discredited. cause you know it's going to happen.

Not masturbating till your raw is self control. Not masturbating all, or suggesting it is morally right to not is insane.

You didn't answer my question.

And I'm not married

I didn't because it was a stupid strawman, an argument you erected... oh dear what a bad but proper choice of words, that bares... I did it again, little with my stance just to make yourself feel good... oh geez.

Because she's not saying it because of Self-Control, that's you BSing to try to justify her stance. Her stance on it was you shouldn't do it becasue its sinful. Her reasons have **** all to do with "promoting" self control.

Not to mention Self Control for the self of self control isn't necessarily some great thing to push. Masterbation is not some kind of negative hurtful harmful thing unless done in such excess it damages your life, and that can be said of anything. This would be like taking up a crusade to get people to stop eating chicken because animals have feelings too, but also because it would take SELF CONTROL not to eat chicken! And then turning around, ignoring the main reason, and going "Well, they're promoting Self Control, so what's wrong with that".

Because its not "Hey don't masturbate, show self control" its "Hey, don't masturbate, its a sin and god doesn't like it and you could go to hell for it so you kids need to feel bad and guilty about touching yourself and show self control and not do it".

You show self control not to do drugs. You show self control not stealing. You show self control brushing your teeth every morning. You show self control not doing things in excess (such as masturbating). But its rather pointless to "show self control" in doing something completely benign, in which you get no benefit from exerting your self control, and can actually cause issues psychologically when you're being told you have to use self control because the action is sinful and against god

That said, the masturbation issue and even the genesis issue is rather irrelevant to me. If she still holds those beliefs and thinks that should be something the government should do, that'd be a problem. But we're talking 10 to 15 years ago with no indication since that time that this is still her strong felt view. As has already been pointed out, to bitch about that you'd have to also put into play her opponents Marxism.

Hey, we have a winner!

In case anyone is interested, she hit the million dollar mark this morning and as of now has raised $1,020,000.

If she cared about her party, she'd have withdrew from the race.
Seems to me the idea behind the TEA party members is that a status-quo GOP is part of the problem.

If she cared about her party, she'd have withdrew from the race.

There's very little chance for her to win a general election. Shes rabidly conservative, even pushing for a literal interpretation of Genesis to be taught in schools and she opposes ALL abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. She may appeal to the teabaggers, but she's a little too nutty for most people to vote for.

She'll push moderate Republicans and conservative-leaning moderates away from the Republicans.

um. you do know that more people identify with the tea party than identify with either major party?

the real question becomes this (pay ye attention, Republican establishment). if THIS woman can unseat a relatively popular and firmly ensconced member of your party in a primary simply because he became tied to the Washington mindset....

then anybody can.

to any of you.

I wholeheartedly agree with that.
Me too. I've said for some time that conseratives in gonvernment really only manage to slow down our governmental and societal slide down into the gutter of socialism -- that, as there is no force that tries to reverse this decline into the abyss, we will eventually get there.

It appears that these TEA party people aim to change that. If so, then this is a good thing.

bingo, it's not enough to run on a platform of simply committing suicide slower.

um. you do know that more people identify with the tea party than identify with either major party?
.

Really? It seems to mean the Tea Party is becoming the bastion of fringe Christian political movement. And I do not think most people identify themselves in that realm.
