ACTION: Notice; withdrawal.
SUMMARY: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (“ATF”) is announcing the withdrawal of a notice and request for comments entitled “Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with ‘Stabilizing Braces’,” that was published on December 18, 2020.

This is good news for anyone following the issue earlier this year where the ATF declared they were going to review the rules surrounding pistol braces, probably with the desire to create additional restrictions that would have placed AR pistols into the Short Barreled Rifle category.

Here’s an article from Bearing Arms that explains the issue in more context.

This whole thing, along with so much of the other useless crap that gun control advocates want to do, just goes to show how they don't really care so much about safety and just want to make life a pain in the ass for gun owners.

The regulation of SBRs is stupid and useless, just like bans on "assault weapons" and restrictions on suppressors.

If the ATF actually cared about protecting people from violence, this would the last thing they'd be spending time on.

So a pistol brace turns a pistol into a carbine ?

It turns a pistol into a pistol with a pistol brace.

The whole distinction between pistol/rifle is idiotic to begin with. It certainly has nothing to do with keeping anyone safe.

Like many things a regulatory agency gets involved in, it’s a way to generate revenue. In this case it’s a $200 tax stamp to get a weapon legally classified as an SBR so you don’t have to worry about running afoul of this idiotic pistol brace rule.

Or, in other words, useless bureaucrats working tirelessly at our expense to justify their existence.

Well doh !

So you reckon the fact that most shootings are done with hand guns is superfluous ?

Bet you never dreamed I could use the word "pistol" three times in one sentence, aye?
