More "Change you can believe in":
The New York Times has obtained and described a secret Justice Department report, detailing the US government's aid to World War II Nazis, who sought asylum in the West after the war.
While claiming to be a haven for the persecuted of that war, i.e. for the victims of Nazis, the US sought to obtain assistance from Germans, known to be Nazis and war criminals, in its Cold War against the Soviet Union....
In 2006, when the Justice Department report was finished, the Bush administration rejected making it public, determining that it would be bad for the public image of the USA, which at the time was certainly already taking a beating in the world after five years of the Terror Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
However, the Obama administration, which had promised during the 2008 election to run a more open and transparent government, did not change the Bush policy—in fact in numerous cases Obama simply followed Bush's lead.
In the case of the report on the US government's aid to Nazis, the Obama administration fought the release of the secret report, determining as did the Bush regime that American citizens have no right to know their own government's complicity in helping war criminals.
