Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care' | The Weekly Standard

Even as President Obama and his administration are making a last minute push to encourage enrollment in Obamacare, a quiet change was made on the Healthcare.gov website regarding those who will still not be able to afford coverage after the program kicks in. From at least June 26, 2013 to as recently as September 15, under the topic, "Where can I get free or low-cost care in my community?" the following statement appeared: "If you can't afford any health plan, you can get free or low-cost health and dental care at a nearby community health center." Here is how the page in question appeared:

However, sometime between September 16 and September 23, the reference to "free" care was dropped. The title of the topic was changed as well, and now reads: "Where can I get low-cost care in my community?" Here is how the page currently appears:

"This was the moment we started to provide care for the sick .."

Looking back at that rhetoric now, how anyone fell for these absurdities ....

Ha, who'd a thunk it?

If the loons think healthcare is expensive now, wait until it's free.

I'll tell you what's really absurd: The fact that so many people on the right actually thought that Romney had a chance to win last November.

Romney wasn't even in the game.

Can anyone guess what will happen if the GOP runs another dude like Romney in 2016?

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

I guess this comes as a great shock to the CONs but for decades the County/Community Health Care Centers have provided simple healthcare for low income folks. They use a sliding scale based on income. I know birth control and STDs are handled at these clinics, often for little if any charge if you have a food stamp card. funds are limited but they also give out vouchers for more complex health concerns to be handled at local doctor offices/clinics/county hospital.

^ A truly desperate partisan hackery attempt to derail the topic to an irrelevancy.

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

Obama's slogan should be "You can believe me when I tell you I lied."

Moderator's Warning:
There's a topic here folks; I suggest you stick too it or further action will be taken. If you see someone beraking a rule, I suggest you report it or ignore it. If you respond in kind you could wind up with action being taken towards you as well

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

I think it's a pretty darn relevant point.

As an independent I would have gladly welcomed a viable Republican candidate in 2012.

And there were more than a few in the early running.

But at a time when American needed a real fiscal conservative the Republican Party opted for a caricature of a social conservative with a proven chief executive history of fiscal liberalism.

I mean, after all, Romney was doing socialized medicine before socialized medicine was cool.

So to complain that Obama sux because of Obamacare when the alternative to Obama was the guy who ran the pilot program for Obamacare is kinda silliy.

Three different pages on the same site which uses the word free to discuss healthcare. Surprising that wasn't mentioned in the opening post.

And as far as "quietly" goes, what does "loud" sound like on a website?

It would sound
SOMETHING LIKE THIS

Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

They might take it off the website, but it does not change the fact that PARASITE NATION, the ObamaBASE think of ObamaKARE as the do ObamaPHONES and ObamaCASH.

It's Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

It's the mentality of the Demokratss... aka Socialists of Amerika Partei (SAPs). Steal the wealth and spread the bounty around to buy more votes and if not through buying, then dependency.

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, and with all the failures around the world, they seem to believe we have better, more compassionate bureaucrats. Isn't it nice to know the Jack Boot and Iron Fist of Lois Lerner's IRS is involved in this? Isn't it?

Because it's Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I see you're changing the subject, typical of someone ashamed of their own.

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

Any wonder why the collective has started dropping the "Obamacare" reference over the last few weeks in favor of "Affordable Care Act"?
Touche

A big "Down for Construction while removing the word Free" banner with loud sirens. That's the only way a change should happen...everything else is assumed to be devious in nature.

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

Um, "free" isn't mentioned here.
If you need coverage, you can use the Marketplace. If you have coverage, you gain new protections. If you don’t have coverage, you may have to pay a fee.
Um, "free" is mentioned here, albeit with the caveat "may"
You or your child may get free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program CHIP.
Um, "free" is mentioned here, albeit with the caveat "may" and then only in the context of preventive screenings
You may be eligible for free preventive screenings, like blood pressure and cholesterol tests, mammograms, colonoscopies, and more. This includes coverage for vaccines and new preventive services for women.

Three different pages on the same site which uses the word free to discuss healthcare. Surprising that wasn't mentioned in the opening post. < snip >
...because it's largely irrelevant?

Obviously it's not irrelevant, because it was the topic of a thread. *shrug*

It's evil to edit a website. Hear me Schweddy? - EVIL!

I never voted for him in the primary. I certainly would've liked a better candidate.

Because healthcare has everything to do with car crashes and gang violence right? OH WAIT.

Re: Obamacare Website Quietly Deletes Reference to 'Free Health Care'

Look harder on the page.
You probably are referring to this quote: "You’ll also learn if you can get free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)." Aren't we getting a little petty with the technicalities? Oh, and there's this reference too (the only other one): "...benefits like free preventive care." Already addressed as something caveated with the word "may."
