So what, you say? Why does it matter whether the pres does or does not decide to visit the Sikh temple?
Because of the reason for skipping that particular highlight:
So, can't the POTUS wear a hat? No, not good enough:
So, in order to visit the temple, Obama has to wear a turban, or something much like a turban.
And, since wearing a turban, even a Sikh one, would give the pres the appearance of being a Muslim, he won't visit the temple.
Can it get more bizarre than that?

“To come to golden temple he needs to cover his head,” said Dalmegh Singh, secretary of the committee that runs the temple. “That is our tradition.”

Observant Sikhs do not cut their hair, and Sikh men wear turbans that cover their heads in public. Visitors to Sikh temples, known as gurudwaras, are required to cover their heads and remove their shoes. Baseball caps are not considered appropriate.
