Or can we? Haven't we taken enough blame for our involvement in other people's foreign affairs? Maybe it is time they settle it themselves. Why is it our job to do anything for them?
I live in Georgia. I'm a pistol carrying pig hunting auto mechanic who lives on 20 acres of woods in the mountains. When we refer to ''Murica" we're not talking about the one liberals like. It's not a slur here. It's more of a joke along the lines of "I'm pretty sure those soft opinionated types would disagree with what we are doing here". We actually do have things like a school systems (pretty good schools actually), internet, government and all the same retail stores everyone else does. But when someone says "Have a blessed day" we don't get our panties in a wad about it. I'm actually from the Chicago suburbs originally and moved here on purpose. The guy I'm hunting with this weekend is a brilliant machinist. The guy from Ukraine who is handling my marketing has an engineering degree but lives almost off grid. We had to postpone our meeting because one of his goats had a kid. We are all business owners and have employees.
So when we use terms like that it is to enforce a stereotype and make a joke. It's beautiful here, we don't want the "enlightened" crowd moving down here to change it.
Fair enough Im in Southern California where its used as a slur, typically with a sneer. Mostly from liberals who think they are superior.
Sounds to me like superiority is implied in the statement:
"It's beautiful here, we don't want the "enlightened" crowd moving down here to change it."
Sounds like it won't be beautiful anymore, which is implied superiority.
That's what people do tho. Just saying.
Part of the problem is that there are no good options.
Its amazing how you know the telos of everyone else, isn't it?
The root of the ptoblem is TV. If the boneheads would shut them off and surf the Internet for truthful information, there would be a sea change.
People are engaged in the attempt to control. Your posting here is an attempt to control, whether you like or admit it. Control implies superiority.
I believe you're right on target. We have a president that hates America, opposes American exceptionalism ...
The Western powers have to at least place sanctions on Russia if they are not going to help Ukraine. We cannot let Russia invade whoever they want.
[h=1]Obama warns US will 'isolate' Russia
if Putin doesn't pull back in Ukraine[/h]
Obama threatens to
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the time for warnings is over. The article says they are considering what steps to take. Why don't they already KNOW what steps to take? Why are no contingency plans for this in place already? If our intelligence didn't see this coming? Why not?
I blame our intelligence community. We spend billions of dollars to get a heads up on this type action. What happened?
I sure didn't see anyone here getting their panties in a wad when Russia didn't respond aggressively when we invaded and occupied Iraq, which is a whole lot less "understandable" than Russia going into Crimea where they already had a base of operation and local cooperation.
Right, "some" from four countries. You still miss the point that the US is viewed as the most menacing country, and threat to the peace of others. They weren't being polled on their thoughts of the quality of life of residency here.
Funny that even 13% of Americans consider the US the greatest threat to world peace.
Yes, Crimea is NOT Ukraine!
I know that Americans are not the best educated people in the world, but the Soviet Republic, that was called Ukrainian SSR, was bigger than the province Ukraine of the former Tsarist Russia.
Nikita Khrushchev was the one who just added the Russian Crimean Peninsula to the Ukrainian SSR, because he was a Ukrainian himself, but he did not expect that the USSR will eventually collapse.
After the collapse of the USSR the Russian population of the Crimea became foreigners in their own land, which was part of Russia till 1954.
Today this population is using the opportunity and is deciding in a referendum about their future.
Why should this internal Russian problem be a concern to the USA?
Some could be all but one...that's the way haters work.
They should leave. Why don't they leave?
Does USA not invade countries that are thousands of miles away from American shores?
BTW, the Crimean Peninsula was never part of the Ukraine, it was part of the Russian Empire.
I think that the population of the Crimean peninsula has the right to decide about their future in a referendum.
This was possible in the former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, why should this not be possible in the former Ukraine?
Haters lol. More like observers.
Probably they're the ones that are trying to improve our image, they need to be joined, not encouraged to leave. Funny that because you don't like us being told to cool our jets, you're right and they're all wrong.
Improve our image? We're neither respected or feared...how's that an improvement?
We don't need to be feared.
And our foreign policy doesn't deserve respect, lol.
We do if we're going to paint "red lines"
Ain't that the truth.
Well, I agree we shouldn't be painting red lines.
Well, certainly if we're not going to do anything when they're crossed.
If your referring to Syria, Obama shouldn't have painted it, but after the fact, there was nothing he could do. He was prevented.
Guess he ain't got the pull.
