I think NASA, with proper oversight, is a very valuable organization. With the right research, space could be very valuable for mining operations, and without the environmental damages we associate mining with today. But pick any program or cause you like, the money would still likely be better there than being spent in this war.
No, but Obama was planning to run for congress back in '02, and he knew that if the war was a spectacular success, that his opponent would use the words against him. He still had the pressures of congress, namely getting elected.

You started this thread with bogus claims about Obama making the US military a "2nd class country" based on what you say were the meaning of his words. That is supposedly why you started this typically partisan thread.
Then you divert into this bogus claim that only you believe namely that you, Navy Pride do NOT TAKE OBAMA at his word that he would not have voted for the Iraq war despite my posting his actual speech given two weeks before that horrible vote.
OK...so the gospel according to Navy Pride is that you take some words from Obama and twist them into some bizarre theory that he would make the US impotent and those words that he said you're certain of.
However his speech which he clearly says he's against the war is not what Obama meant, no sir, you know better and you think that had he had a vote he would have caved in on his principles and therefore his words are false!

It amuses me that some republicans argue small government, and an end to government waste/spending, but then go kuckoo and declare just the opposite when it comes to the 50% of the revenue that the government pours into the military industry.
If we've been modernizing all this time, then why are U.S. troops still using M16 variants after the millions pumped into weapons programs for years now? I'm sure HK and Colt don't mind it, nor their political backers (or whoever is funded from the programs). What's Obama's plan going to do to that? Cut some programs that were cancelled anyway? Why are home-made IEDs blowing our modernized troops to hell and back routinely? If that's your idea of modernizing the military, I suspect your money is being spent on aspen ski vacations and not our military.
No one wants a small military, or a weak military. But for heaven's sake, cut some of that fat out because tax payers have to fund that government subsidizing of military contractors, and that's big-government waste. With nukes, a real world war is inconceiveable. Even if it were possible, with the prosperity of the allied nations (europe, u.s., canada, etc.), no country has a prayer at doing anything other than ticking us off. You know this.

Again you don't cut the research on weapons systems and you don. eliminate all nukes because the bad guys are not going to get rid of theirs........
