The 400 million that we gave Iran was to refund Iranian funds that we froze after the Iranian revolution. All over some weapons Reagan never delivered. The money belonged to the Iranians. The idea of the money being a ransom is just plain dismissed by educated people. Iran asked for 10 billion dollars which is what we owed them in todays dollars. Obama got us off with only refunding 400 million. Trump has never made a deal like that.

The timing is what makes it seem suspicious. Do you have a source for the 10 billion dollar claim? I haven't seen that yet.

When lack of knowledge is displayed so openly, it's difficult to restrain "the pen". However, in the spirit of sympathy, I offer the following so embarrassment can be avoided in the future.

The US did not pay a $400 million “ransom to Iran. Here’s what actually happened. - Vox

By January 2016, the countries had struck a deal — the US would pay Iran $1.7 billion, which amounts to about $300 million in interest on top of the originally frozen assets (accounting for inflation).

The settlement was announced the same day in January as Iran received its first round of sanctions relief from the Iran deal.

The $400 million payment, delivered in foreign cash because US law prevents the government from giving Iran dollars, was the first installment toward the $1.7 billion total. Getting together large amounts of foreign cash is hard, apparently — hence the installment plan.

I've heard anywhere from 7 bil to 10 bil. Here's a link for the 10 bil claim.

US sent plane with $400 million in cash to Iran - CNNPolitics.com

The $400 million was Iran's to start with, placed into a US-based trust fund to support American military equipment purchases in the 1970s. When the Shah was ousted by a 1979 popular uprising that led to the creation of the Islamic Republic, the US froze the trust fund. Iran has been fighting for a return of the funds through international courts since 1981.
In announcing the agreement, Obama said that paying the $400 million -- plus $1.3 billion in interest -- was saving American taxpayers billions of dollars. The Iranians had been seeking more than $10 billion at arbitration.

true, the final settlement is 1.7 billion but your comments are just more right wing...stuff. Obama got the settlement from 10 billion to 1.7 billion. Trump is amateur in comparison.

he bought the hostages' safety with iran's own money

Only a liberal would think giving Iran 400 million was a "good deal". Especially when we didn't have to give them ****. We also let them out of sanctions, which never should have happened.

Wrong.

What someone asks (sues?) for is immaterial as is any counter claim (suit?) made. What monitary value would you place on (ask for?) 52 US diplomats/citizens being held captive by Iran for 444 days (with punative penalties and inflation/interest)? The problem, of course, is that Obama decided (unilaterally?) to settle out of court (for $1.7 billion?) to help his legacy and waived any counter claim. You are right - Trump never made a deal like that.

Do you think Iran is going to use any of that 400 Million ( 100 Million per hostage ) to fund terror?

Or do you care more about blindly defending a repeated liar than you care about murdered innocents in the name of Islam ??

How much did they pay the American hostages?

They say they are eager for war with the USA, is that why the money was laundered and tried to be handled in secret.

Trump would have bombed the economy then declared bankruptcy, boom saving us the 10 billion dollars. Genius.

Obama wants a legacy. Iran is one of his attempts at it.

Lol......fantasy is all the left have these days

?

The right handed the left this election on a silver platter. I think both parties are going to have to have a moment of self realization after this election. Republicans have to understand that there are actually enough idiots in their party who understand nothing about politics that Trump actually won the primary. And left is going to have to grapple with the fact that Hillary actually had to compete with Trump because she was such a poor choice as opposed to a quality candidate that should have been up by 20 pts from the very beginning. Unless of course Trump continues to shoot himself in the foot, which is very possible, which will make it possible for the democrats to completely ignore what this election could have been.

Hey Fenton,

"Bless your Enemies, do good to those that persecute you (JC, Bible.")

I think the timing is splendid and that it was all arranged by humans.
