WASHINGTON — U.S. President Barack Obama, in a message to Iran's people and leaders, said this year represented the "best opportunity in decades" to pursue a different relationship between their two countries.Obama said Thursday that nuclear talks between Iran and Western powers had made progress but that gaps remained. "This moment may not come again soon," Obama said in his message celebrating Nowruz, the Iranian New Year. "I believe that our nations have an historic opportunity to resolve this issue peacefully — an opportunity we should not miss."
Iran and six world powers are seeking a comprehensive agreement to curb Iran's most sensitive nuclear activities for at least 10 years in exchange for a gradual end to sanctions against Tehran. The powers aim to complete the framework of a final deal by the end of March and reach a full agreement by June 30.
Obama said in his message that "the days and weeks ahead will be critical. Our negotiations have made progress, but gaps remain. And there are people, in both our countries and beyond, who oppose a diplomatic resolution."
"My message to you — the people of Iran — is that, together, we have to speak up for the future we seek," he said, adding: "This year, we have the best opportunity in decades to pursue a different future between our countries."

Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity' - NBC News

This is... the most insane thing I've ever heard or seen...
He really, REALLY believes he can just talk "sensibly" and everyone will fall in line...

Are you kidding me?

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Bibi called it when he spoke to Congress.... paving the way for a nuclear armed Iran. Prophetic even...
He threw Israel under the bus, is trying to say "we're your friends and partners" to Iran. He's completely lost his ****ing mind.

Let's do a hypothetical.... Obama gets his wish, a crappy deal with Iran that they will not keep, they play "hide the pickle" with inspectors while either buying and replicating ICBM technology and enough nuclear material for multiple warheads. 5 or 6 years from now some new Iranian mullah nitwit decides to use the nuke on some group in some country - maybe Israel, who knows. Will Obama be held accountable for LETTING Iran get nukes and will this bad "deal" be seen as the reason millions died?

Of course not - this will be GW Bush's fault because of the Iraq war you see.

You assume there would be real outrage at Israel being nuked.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Is it wrong to wonder just whose side Obama is on?

Can anyone possibly believe the mullahs have any interest in working with a western nation of infidels?

Obama is either stupid or sympathetic when it comes to Iran.

Touche. But I think there would be, not because it's Israel that got nuked but because other countries would then be worried about their own asses.

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Who in Iran actually heard what Obama said?

Re: Obama Sends Iran a Nowruz Message, Calls Nuclear Talks a 'Historic Opportunity'

Are you kidding me?
I'm perfectly happy with the tact that Obama is taking with Iran.

The majority of the world is able to work perfectly decently with Iran. As a German, for example, you can fly into Iran and live and work at the Iranian branch of Siemens or Krupp without any Iranian or German ever thinking twice. It's a completely unremarkable situation, because believe it or not, Iran is a completely middle-of-the-road, 80 million pop country that falls into line with the expectations/problems we have with every other non-Western developing country.

America (and Israel) is the only odd one out here. No other countries have such bizarre trust issues with Iran, nor does Iran have such difficulty rest of the world, probably because the rest of the world doesn't have such a large number of Cowboy-diplomat, conservative jingoists who seem to want to level Iran every chance they get.

1. If they don't allow inspectors access when and where it is needed the agreement can be revoked and we go right back to... well to where we are right now. Who gives a ****. Worst case scenario is we go back to our current state.

2. How in the **** did you conclude that if we have inspectors in Iran then they could build a nuclear arsenal in 5 to 6 years, but they can't do that in the current scenario where we don't have any inspectors inside the country?

3. It's not nearly as easy as the average person would think to just move around the kind of equipment and materials needed to make a nuclear weapon. This takes huge amounts of people, effort, equipment, material etc. It would be like a factory or a chemical plant being moved to a new location in a weeks notice. It's not possible.

This goes to show you how dense conservatives are being on this issue. They actually prefer the scenario of us not having inspectors inside Iran rather than us actually having inspectors. Some how we are in less danger when we aren't keeping a close eye on them.

Here you talk about how dense Conservatives are.....yet for some reason cant filter thru the grey matter what the French had to say. Which is why they sent a counter proposal to BO peep and the State Dept in February. Right when the left had their panties all in an uproar about Netanyahu coming to speak and make BO look like the fool he was born to be.

What happened?

I hate to tell ya.. but Iran already can make the bomb, and Obama has been an enabler of this by giving the last few years to complete the infrastructure...

why do you think that Saddam who would not allow UN inspections on WMDS ( that are now in Syria) that Iran will allow inspections?..

Obama promised the Mullahs Bibis scalp for a fake weak deal for Obamas fake legacy... thats why Obama is lashing out at Bibi ( for being alive ) and the people of Israel know tht Iran has the bomb today.. they dint need years they already have all the componets and Russian tech.

Its scary alright,, and the ignorance on all this is even more scary

As Bibi said then, "so much talk about a speech that hasn't been given". So much criticism of a deal that's at the moment, still being negotiated. Bibi isn't intimate with the deal, nor are DP posters. So other than the freaks false claim, have you evidence that China, Russia, France, Germany and the UK, are conspiring with Obama to give Iran a green light on nuclear weapons, hmm?

Where we are now is letting them do what they want to do and removing them from the national terror list and the President warning Congress not to issue more of those pesky sanctions. Oh so punitive.

Fair point. I guess the treaty has to be signed before we know what it's about..... what TRANSPARENCY though eh? Whoa.... that much TRANSPARENCY is making me dizzy. :lamo

Nah, we are just going with that Iran came back with an ultimatum and that's with BO peeps bad deal. Since DP posters don't have to be intimate with the deal. Just up on the knowing.

Oh, and why mention France when they sent counter proposals to BO peeps deal. Why calling BO an Amateur.

Surprise: Iranians Add New Demand In Nuke Talks......

Tehran’s negotiators in Switzerland, according to these diplomats, have hardened their position that United Nations sanctions on their country be repealed at the front end of any deal reached this month with the U.S. and other global powers. The U.S. and its European allies are demanding the U.N.’s sanctions be suspended or terminated in a phased time-frame over years. They believe sanctions relief should only come after Iran addresses concerns about its past nuclear work and is given a clean bill of health by the U.N.’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Iranians “say it’s a deal breaker. They don’t want it at all,” said a senior European diplomat involved in the Lausanne talks, referring to Iran’s position on the U.N. sanctions. “There’s no way that we would give up on that…. No way.”

Congressional leaders have begun pressuring their colleagues to cut off all U.S. funding for the ongoing talks with Iran over its contested nuclear program as the Obama administration rushes to hash out the details of a deal in the coming months, according to multiple sources and a letter that will be sent next week to appropriators in the House of Representatives. With the deadline approaching, congressional Republicans have been exasperated by the Obama administration’s efforts to prevent them from having any oversight over the deal. Reps. Peter Roskam (R., Ill.) and Lee Zeldin (R., N.Y.) are now petitioning their colleagues on the House Appropriations Committee to prohibit all taxpayer funding for the talks, the Washington Free Beacon has learned. This would purge all U.S. funds available to Obama administration officials for travel abroad, hotel stays, and any other activities related to the P5+1 talks with Iran.

Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) on Thursday slammed the Obama administration for arguing that a diplomatic pact will prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons, calling it a “preposterous argument.” Sherman’s remarks came during an exchange in Congress with Deputy Secretary of State Tony Blinken. The lawmaker said Iran had proven itself untrustworthy during previous nuclear negotiations. “Obviously, they’re willing to break the law,” Sherman said, noting Tehran’s repeated violations of past U.N. mandates and diplomatic treaties.....snip~

the only opportunity here is Obama desperately trying to get a foreign policy victory, so he won't go down in history as a bigger hack than Jimmy Carter.

The French are still at the table, so they can use their position to influence the negotiations as they may. In the end though, all six countries have reiterated that any deal agreed to will deny a nuclear weaponized Iran. So other than your daily barrage of Democratic Party criticism, what's your concern?

The only person mentioning Obama is you. Good job.

You didn't rebut any of my argument. If this doesn't work out, worst case scenerio, other than your stupid "hypothetical", is that we go back to our current policy of constant sanctions and no contact and no inspectors inside of Iran.

Do you think it's easier for a country to build nuclear weapons if there are inspectors inside the country taking a look around or if they are totally secluded from any authority on the matter? Seriously, that's the issue.

Your rant belongs in the conspiracy theory. Provide actual evidence to back it up if you want any kind of substantive reply from any sane person.

Naturally the French are at the table.....they want 25 years not BO peeps allowance of only 10 years. Which still doesn't change their opinion of BO peep and his deal. Oh and they never wanted to take all sanctions off the Iranians Right away either.

But don't let that Democrat's concern fool you about why there is a concern. Maybe one day you will figure out that the Iranians just aren't good guys and are some lying fools to think others don't know what they are about.

But then they have those such as BO peep and yourself.....that helps with the misperception on why they should be trusted.

French leaders think the U.S. president is dangerously naïve on Iran's ambitions, and that his notion of making Iran an "objective ally" in the war against ISIS, or even a partner, together with Putin's Russia, to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis, is both far-fetched and "amateurish."

When Claude Angéli says that both France's Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius, and its President, François Hollande, have told friends that they rely on "the support of the US Congress" to prevent Obama from giving in to Iran's nuclear ambitions, it is the kind of quote you can take to the bank. French diplomats worry that if Iran gets nuclear weapons, every other local Middle East power will want them. Among their worst nightmares is a situation in which Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia join the Dr. Strangelove club.

The French are still smarting from the last-minute reprieve Obama granted Syria, as the French air force was about to bomb the Assad regime's military positions back in 2013, because the U.S. President had been convinced by Russia that they had succeeded in making Syrian President Bashar al-Assad give up on the use of his chemical weapons. "Our Rafale fighters were about to scramble," a French air force officer is quoted as saying; "Hollande was furious."....snip~

I don't rebut an argument based on a hypothetical. A "stupid hypothetical" which you deemed worthy enough to bother listing your grievances against. And I might add, your posts were the one's which got all bent out of shape regarding "conclusions". Funny stuff though.

Do you think it's easier for a country to build nuclear weapons if there are inspectors inside the country taking a look around or if they are totally secluded from any authority on the matter? Seriously, that's the issue.
Ah a serious question. Hmm... well I would say that it's easier for a country to build a nuclear weapons where inspectors are not going to be - such as a secret place such as the one here found in 2010.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/09/09/iran.nuclear.site/index.html

One could then surmise, well, if they had one site tucked away from inspectors why couldn't they have other sites. Let me ask you a serious question:

Do you believe that Iran has no intention whatsoever of creating a nuclear weapon and only wants the heavy water systems and centrifuges for peaceful nuclear power?
