After a meeting with Vietnam's president Truong Tan Sang on Thursday, President Barack Obama said the following to reporters (emphasis mine):
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Sang shared with me a copy of a letter sent by Ho Chi Minh to Harry Truman. And we discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the US Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson. Ho Chi Minh talks about his interest in cooperation with the United States. And President Sang indicated that even if it's 67 years later, it's good that we're still making progress.

Yes, it is true that the United States once waged a disastrous, pointless, and horrific waragainst Ho Chi Minh and the people of Vietnam. But Obama's comment wasn't a gaffe or insult to American war vets, as much as someone like Allen West would like it to be. What Obama said is literally a historical fact. In September 1945, Ho Chi Minh delivered the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi to a crowd of nearly a million Vietnamese. Not only was the "The Star-Spangled Banner" played by a Vietnamese band during his address, but he opens his speech by quoting Thomas Jefferson. Here's the excerpt:
"All men are created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness"
This immortal statement was made in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America in 1776. In a broader sense, this means: All the peoples on the earth are equal from birth, all the peoples have a right to live, to be happy and free.

Sometimes the facts just get trapped in a distorted view of history.

Yes, Ho Chi Minh did that. Right before he began mass genocide with the aid of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and of course Communist China.

Not exactly what Jefferson was describing in his letters to Adams or in any of his published papers, or especially the Deceleration of Independence. Ho Chi Minh should have added this, right after the "All men are created equal" part... Except those citizens of Vietnam that we oppose or get in the way of our friend Pol Pot.

Just sayin'...

That said, a "friend" is easier to deal with than an enemy.

If that's the case, then we can correctly say that Obama was inspired by Adolf Hitler.

I mean...come on...he was a relative nobody who became a champion for the "working class" who eventually got voted into office, and had BIG plans for a "fundamental change."

In fact...as I look into it....

Hitler sunk massive amounts of money (Germany didn't have) into large infrastructure projects. Doesn't Obama crow on and on about "roads, roads, roads?"
Hitler was fascinated with Globalism. Same as Obama.
1930's Germany had a massive "Labour Front" of thousands of workers. Isn't Obama over-the-top favorable about workers unions?
Hitler started the Volkswagen ("People's Car") and wanted everyone to drive them. Doesn't Obama go on and on about electric cars?
In the 30's, the majority of the citizens loved Hitler, and what he was doing to the state. That sounds eerily familiar to Obama.
With the rise of the Labour Front, small businesses were choked out of competition. That REALLY sounds like Obama, and his fascist desires of controlling the economy.
Oh....and there was state-run, universal healthcare in 1930's Germany as well. The Nazis over-regulated it to the point that doctors were just puppets to the government. Obama's dream.

Cue the people who will argue this was "gotcha journalism" because they were set up to look foolish.

Godwins law!!! A whole 3 posts in!

Doncha just love lame duck presidents? They literally can say whatever the hell they want!

Or they can just say historic facts and people will try to freak out on them over nothing.

actually Obama has some truth in what he says-indeed he often does that and uses it to lend credibility (and to suck in his toadies in the press who don't bother dealing with the far more evident lies) to his nonsense.

HCM wanted US aid in throwing off the decadent post war French wannabe imperialists. We should have aided and abetted that and that would have prevented the idiocy in SE Asia. But when China went communist, Truman screwed the pooch and was unable to understand the difference between an anti colonial nationalist and a hard core Communist like Mao.

Truman forced HCM into the communist camp-whether HCM would have arrived there even if we had helped him end post war french colonial wet dreams is unknown however since HCM had more than a passing familiarity with marxism prior this era

It's not so much about what he said, but what he didn't say. Obama didn't qualify those remarks by making a clarifying statement like this: "Of course, we all know that the Founding Fathers weren't Communist, so we should take comfort in knowing that America was not intended to be a Communist nation".

Hitler liked dogs and brushed his teeth. Obama likes dogs and brushes his teeth. Oh no!

Perhaps...or maybe there's some actual correlations. Notice that I left out the whole "world war" and "jew" thing. I was strictly concentrating on the policies and societal impact. Maybe instead of throwing labels as a "defense," you could rationally explain them away.

What does Hitler have to do with anything in this?
Your post really has zero relevance to anything about this topic.
