Barack Obama says politicians get credit for founding colleges
Barack Obama says politicians get credit for founding colleges | PolitiFact

" . . . . . . Obama said "the reason we even have colleges is that at some point there were politicians who said, ‘You know what? We should start colleges.’ "

Even allowing for some oversimplification in a live interview, Obama is exaggerating. Public colleges and universities are a distinct minority of all such institutions, and while they comprise a majority of enrollment nationally, private schools account for a significant minority of enrollment. Meanwhile, historians of American higher education note that even in the case of "public" universities, "politicians" can’t automatically claim credit. The statement contains some element of truth but ignores critical facts that would give a different impression, so we rated it Mostly False."

Is there no end to this liar's stupidity?

Well, Al Gore did create the internet .... :lamo

Ok first, when I saw this thread and then came into it I thought the title was "Obama Lies about Collages" and I'm thinking to myself, what the **** did he lie about collages and what did I miss? Then I put on my glasses and went... "ohhhhh.... "

Frankly, I'd like to see him switch this from colleges to non-college work training for both High School and post HS, as well as adult learning. Stuff like, apprenticeships for electrical, plumbing, construction, and other specialty types like welding, metal work, construction --- which can easily then go into college degrees in fields like structural engineering, architecture, etc..

When universities and colleges first appeared, politicians were still noble men.

When universities and colleges first appeared, the Catholic Church ruled Europe centuries ago. Its actually the Church that founded the college system in Europe. That's why I find Obama's comment so revolting.

That is fairly cose to the truth, though, the period i was thinking of was antiquity.

Many of the first American colleges were also founded by ministers and religious denominations.

Dating back to Abraham Lincoln, who started something called the land-grant colleges.

Dating back to Lincoln? Obama graduated from Harvard. He apparently doesn't even know his alma mater's history. It was founded by the Puritans in the 1630s who set it up to teach Puritan clergymen. It got its name from a Puritan clergyman who donated money and books to it.

He also forgot his other alma mater - Columbia - was set up and funded by the Church of England.

This guy is pretty shameless.

Greetings, tres borrachos. :2wave:

Or he doesn't always care whether he's correct in what he's stating - plus I doubt that he would admit that the colleges he attended were founded and paid by religious groups in order to reach religion to clergymen. It's a better message for him to state that big government is the only giver of all the good things we enjoy.

As an example, during the recent SOTU speech he gave, he stated that AGW was a 100 percent universally accepted fact - global warming is caused by humans - and we needed to join with others around the world in combating it. However, on that very same day, we all heard the news that scientists themselves admitted that they were only 38 percent sure they were correct, and much more research is needed! Once again, big government is not the answer to all problems, even though they may be the cause of most of them, IMO!

All these lies start when Obama gets up at 9:00 and looks in the bathroom mirror and says, "Damn, I'm good looking..."
