The Congressional Republicans would never approve any action by Obama to end U.S. presence in Afghanistan. They must preserve the U.S. military bases on the eastern border of Iran for the time when they start their war there. Their hopes are to replace Trump as nominee, get their man elected, and maintain a Middle East war. Iraq and Afghanistan both proved to be cash cows for the defense industry, and that keeps the big political donors the GOP depends on happy.

No, the U.S. isn't leaving Afghanistan any time soon. Especially if the Republicans retain their Congressional majority.
