I have a new car. It's a Subaru Outback, with four cylinders and a continuous variable transmission. It has an MPG readout that tells you average MPG since the trip odometer was set, or the current MPG. The current MPG doesn't seem to matter whether I'm going 55 or 65, so long as the road is level. That may be due to the type of transmission.
We just took a road trip, over 700 miles of mostly mountain driving, and came home with a 32 mpg reading! How's that for a 4 wheel drive that can accommodate four full sized adults in comfort, and squeeze one more in if necessary?
Cars have improved dramatically over the years. Maybe that 54.5 is realistic, and us 6 footers won't have to scrunch up after all.
