I've noticed on these boards a bit of skepticism about the possibility of the worst case scenarios playing out. Today, those scenarios seem a bit more likely.

Greenhouse gas emissions worldwide are growing at an accelerating pace this year, researchers said Wednesday, putting the world on track to face some of the most severe consequences of global warming sooner than expected.

Scientists described the quickening rate of carbon dioxide emissions in stark terms, comparing it to a “speeding freight train” and laying part of the blame on an unexpected surge in the appetite for oil as people around the world not only buy more cars but also drive them farther than in the past — more than offsetting any gains from the spread of electric vehicles.

Obviously, it doesn't help that the President of the United States is shoving his head into the coal bin, or that China and India are increasing fossil fuel use faster than they are renewables. Not easy to be an optimist today.

There is no logical reason to deny climate science, absolutely none, unless you're in the oil related field or have lobbyists at your Congressional door every day handing you favors in exchange for relaxing EPA regulation.

People should have learned a lesson from the British when in 1952 4,000 people had died as a direct result of the London smog and 100,000 more were made ill by the smog's effects on the human respiratory tract. More recent research suggests that the total number of fatalities was considerably greater; about 6,000 more died in the following months as a result of the event.

London Fog isn't only the name of that expensive raincoat some wear, it was a real 'thing'. Wikipedia: The Great Smog of London, or Great Smog of 1952, was a severe air-pollution event that affected the British capital of London in early December 1952. A period of cold weather, combined with an anticyclone and windless conditions, collected airborne pollutants—mostly arising from the use of coal—to form a thick layer of smog over the city. It lasted from Friday, 5 December to Tuesday, 9 December 1952 and then dispersed quickly when the weather changed. It was virtually a perfect storm of air pollution.

The Great Smog is known to be the worst air-pollution event in the history of the United Kingdom, and the most significant in terms of its effect on environmental research, government regulation, and public awareness of the relationship between air quality and health. It led to several changes in practices and regulations, including the Clean Air Act 1956.

This photo may look a lot like London in 1952 but it's actually a photo of a steel plant in Baltimore, Maryland around 1970. That plant was one of the two greatest contributor of air pollution in the entire country at that time producing over 115,000 tons of annual emissions. It wasn't until 2015 that Baltimore met the EPA’s guidelines for ground-level ozone pollution for the first time ever.

Just keep in mind. Smog and CO2 are different.

It really is an uphill battle. If you do a Google image search on, "Air pollution" you get lots of results that
look like this:

Air pollution is 'top health hazard in Europe

You know it's water vapor, I know it's water vapor, the people who put up that photo and headline know it's
water vapor and the people that post on these boards know it's water vapor - but the B.S. continues day in
and day out. A steady drone of dogmatic propaganda. It's not going away anytime soon. It will be a long war
of words and a lot of it will depend on the weather. I will be 75 this coming year, I doubt that I will see the
end of it. I used to be more optimistic.

Maybe it will just dry up and blow away like the USSR did. One can hope.
