NYC mayoral candidate Brad Lander handcuffed by ICE​

New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was detained Tuesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents as he was escorting a defendant out of immigration court, his wife said in a statement.

"While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE," Lander's wife, Meg Barnette, wrote on X.

"This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely," Barnette wrote.

ICE did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

Video of the incident shows Lander standing outside a courtroom when he is approached by officers wearing masks.

Lander repeatedly asks the officers to show him a judicial warrant before he is handcuffed, per the video posted by Barnette.

Lander is still in custody as of early Tuesday afternoon, Barnette said during a press conference after the incident.

He was walking arm in arm with an immigrant that just had his case dismissed, but ICE was looking to arrest him. The federal judge stated that this person should not be detained, but ICE arrested him again on immigration charges. ICE claimed the comptroller was in the way and moved to detain him.

He wasn't just "handcuffed." He was illegally detained, probably illegally arrested, and taken to a federal facility where apprehended migrants are held.

As a reminder, ICE does not have the authority to arrest US citizens.

Token minority ICE agents being good little agents for white supremacy and authoritarianism that will come back against them as well. Every single ICE agent and DHS agent at this point should get put in a cell with no due process.
 
Call those people who stand different from you tokens some more, and then tell us how everyone but you is dehumanizing people as if these people don't make their own choices.

Lander didn't violate any laws.

In fact, it's ICE that has broken the law, because they do not have the authority to detain or arrest US citizens. When are you apply your lofty standards to ICE agents?

So I guess you don't actually give a shit about the law? Or are you suggesting that activists should start using some other activists? If so, then what?

And yes, "liberals" are going to keep fighting for their rights. That's how activism works. Or perhaps you think Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, and other civil rights activists should have thrown in the towel the first time they got arrested?
