BBC News - North Korean ship with 'military cargo' held by Panama

"Panama's president says his country has seized a North Korean-flagged ship carrying "undeclared military cargo".

President Ricardo Martinelli told local media that the ship, which was sailing from Cuba, contained suspected "sophisticated missile equipment".

He posted a photo of what looked like a large green object inside a cargo container on his Twitter account."

The 35 person crew has all been detained including the ships captain who tried to kill himself rather than be captured. Under UN sanctions North Korea are banned from most weapons imports so their could be major repercussions for North Korea.

Sorry the captain failed in his attempt. Maybe he needs some help. UN sanctions strike fear into the hearts of four year olds across the globe.

I've been watching this story with great interest. If the UN can find out what this illegal cargo is and track back where it was loaded, it could yield some valuable intel. Unfortunately, all I've learned about this story is from the internet, since every cable and MSM station in my area is still wall-to-wall Zimmerman. Frustrating. :(

BBC News - Seized N Korean ship: Cuban weapons on board

Major repercussions from the UN? A UN resolution? That should have them quaking in their shoes.

Actually yes It will as the sanctions imposed on their country are already pretty punishing but it also might have implications on Cuba.

This sounds like a Tom Clancy novel.

Many would like to believe UN sanctions may have some significant effect, but history proves otherwise. North Korea and Cuba have shown no inclination to abandon their oppressive regimes in the face of significant pressures in the past. That might change, but based on past actions, I seriously doubt it.

punishing innocent people for living under socialist regime seems more oppressive

Not to worry--the discovery of an ancient Russian missle in the cargo hold of a NK ship is as world-shattering news as is the acquittal of Zimmerman.
