North Korea ordered by U.S. judge to pay $500 million in death of Otto Warmbier

WASHINGTON — A federal judge ordered North Korea to pay more than $500 million on Monday in a wrongful death suit filed by the parents of Otto Warmbier, an American college student who died shortly after being released from that country.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in Washington ruled that North Korea should pay damages to Fred and Cindy Warmbier, the parents of the University of Virginia student.

COMMENT:-

Mammoth victory for truth, justice, and the American Way. Of course if the Warmblers actually manage to attach any assets of the DPRK then they will be in violation of American laws prohibiting doing financial business with the DPRK.

PS - One of the easiest ways to win a law suit is for the other side not to show up. Making it (effectively) illegal for the other side to show up (which is the legal situation regarding the government of the DPRK under American laws) is a pretty good guarantee that the other side will not show up.

Let's just say that this story has all of the profound legal significance of "New York Yankees beat Upper East Middle Valley Primary School Baseball Team".

Does not matter much, does not unlock all that much for the family.

Unfortunate but true.

I'd like to see how they intend to collect.

This is not helpful.

Pretty dumb since there's no chance in hell of collecting.
