No respect for shelter in place orders

The governor of my state (Democrat) issued a shelter-in-place order with very few exceptions (I'm in one of the exception categories so I can circulate). My county is very red and massively voted for Trump in 2016. Frankly, pardon my prejudice, but there are a bunch of rednecks here, the pick-up truck kind with American flags, NRA and Trump bumper stickers.

So, I was driving back home, expecting to see empty streets and light traffic, and I'll tell you, the order made no difference whatsoever. I saw the same number of people walking on the sidewalks, frequenting a McDonald's (how in the hell is it still open? It's not an essential business), and the same number of cars, as usual.

WTF???

I bet these people think they are macho men; fearing the virus that is just a little flu is for sissies, and they won't be "obeying any stinking librul governor who is just panicking about this hoax, these fake news! MAGA!!! Go Trump! 'Merica!!! We can just drink chloroquine phosphate from them fish tanks!"

This kind of thing is why we'll be the hardest hit advanced Western country. There is no discipline whatsoever and ignorance is rampant. Unlike in societies like Japan where everybody follows rational directions; unlike in societies like Singapore where everybody listens to scientists, over here these morons continue to gather outside and continue to spread the virus.
 

I see it's ok to express bigotry or racism as long as you preface your remarks with "pardon my prejudice".


So your complaint is that people aren't obeying the government. What a surprise coming from a progressive.

Don't mix up anti-Trump with progressive. They absolutely aren't the same thing.
 

What state do you live in? How do you know these are Trump's people who are ignoring shelter in place orders?
Do they all have beer bellies, look disheveled, drive pickups with a rifle propped up in the back window, and wear MAGA hats?

Methinks you may have just a tad of misplaced anger. :lol:

This is happening all over the country regardless of what your political persuasion is. Many people refuse to obey the rules. I live in NJ and my cousin lives in Cape May. Until today she was able to take a walk on the beach. The reason is they asked people who do not live by the Jersey to not visit. Well, guess what happened? So now the people who live there can no longer take a walk on the beach.

True, I voted for Sanders at the time when I thought he was better equipped to beat Trump (and that belief coincided with my state primaries); like I said if you want to characterize my position best, it's being anti-Trump. Now that I realized Sanders is not the best equipped one, I switched my support to Biden.

I'm complaining that people don't listen to Science and ignorantly continue to sustain that this virus is no big deal. MORONS!!!

That the same people happen to be Trump supporters as evidenced by their bumper stickers, is telling...

Yes, so? Most of the cars I saw circulating today and statistically speaking, likely to be in violation of the order (since the exemption categories were narrow therefore we should be seeing a huge drop in traffic, but aren't), had Trump stickers. Therefore, yes, Trump supporters here are violating the orders issued by the governor from the Democratic party.

And cause more American deaths. You forgot this part.

Not eliminating social contagion and actually actively promoting it by being out and about, sharpen the progression of the curve and enhance the odds of overwhelming the healthcare system. Once the system is overwhelmed, deaths occur for patients who would otherwise have been saved, not only for COVID-19 patients, but for patients with other acute conditions like heart attacks, strokes, trauma from car crashes, etc., who will get to a hospital that is clogged up with COVID-19 patients and has no resources left for them.

We had a similar situation here in San Diego - a place with far few MAGA hats and Trump/Pence bumper stickers. Our local authorities dutifully closes restaurants bars, clubs, limited gathers to 10. closed parks and walkways.

Then the weekend came along with sunny temperate weather and the beaches got real crowded. Not exactly what the powers that be had in mind. So they came out with closing beachs, oceanside walks and every other thing they could think of.

We can still walk outside as it's "near to home". They also said we can walk on the beaches but can't sit down. The fun never stops.
