1.. How was the 14 billion year of existence of the universe calculated?

2. If intelligent life developed here on earth some half million years ago and if that is the rate of development of intelligent life throughout the universe, then it would stand to reason that no intelligent life out there has yet evolved technology that would enable intergalactic travel.
