Rangel, D-N.Y., was quoted in a Thursday article in The New York Times, saying: "Mississippi gets more than their fair share back in federal money, but who the hell wants to live in Mississippi?"

http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/state/15972549.htm

Rep. Rangle needs to appologize to the good people of Mississippi and withdraw his name from any leadership post in the new Democrat congress. This kind of bigotry should not sit on any important committes and especially not as the Chair of the Ways and Means committe as he is slated for.

Will the Dems do the right thing and refute him, will the mainstream media even report this insulting comment?

Chop of his head!

Taylor, whose Bay St. Louis home was washed away by Katrina, said Rangel "was particularly helpful in the post-Katrina time" in securing money for Mississippi's recovery.
To the gallows. Banishment forever.

How lame. :sinking:

What? You don't want to the Ds reinstate the draft?? Maybe Rangel and Murtha will actually get some traction on this now. You know, it seems to me that these two have something in common, but I just can't put my finger on it.... Let's see here: Both are DEMOCRATS WHO SUPPORT REINSTAING THE DRAFT!! Yeah, that's it. They BOTH support reinstating the draft and who was it that stopped them??? C'mon, you can say it...

I'd love to see Rangle throw the draft out there again and then watch Pelosi have a screaming fit and have him tarred and feathered.

The Republicans definition of bigot: Someone who makes fun of Mississippi.

Democrat or Republican, it's not ok to make those kinds of comments when you're a politician. even though i'm a democrat I wouldn't vote for that guy unless he takes back what he said. (not that i'm a big defender of mississippi lol)

Gotta get personal I see. Shows you can't defend his statement.

Mississippi is a state. Not a race.

So what, why does that excuse his bigotry?

Because Mississippians are Bible-thumpin', NASCAR-watchin', tobackie-chewin', sister-marryin', cross-burnin', possum-shootin', book-bannin' trailer trash.

Stop embarassing yourself.
Wide spread outrage.

And the left shows it's true colors............bigotry. BTW Congressman Pickering has called for an apology but I doubt Rangle will do the honorable thing.

Mississippians Rise Up Over Rangel’s Comment

.............In a letter to the editor, Wendy Barthe Peavy of Biloxi wrote: “Congressman Rangel: As a proud Mississippian and resident of the Katrina-ravaged Gulf Coast, I would be happy to tell you ‘who the hell wants to live in Mississippi.’
“I will not waste your time with the litany of world-class writers, artists, athletes, entertainers, scientists, surgeons, astronauts, musicians, soldiers and statesmen who have called Mississippi home,” she wrote. “I will tell you of the 93,000 people still housed in FEMA trailers due to the loss of over 10,000 apartment units and over 150,000 homes to Hurricane Katrina.”
She concluded, “Congressman Rangel, these people went through hell to live in Mississippi!”................

To those whom have shown their arse over this, and that includes more than Rangel.

It is a fact that Mississippi gets far more back in Federal money than it pays in taxes. In fact, it is a fact that virtually all small red states get far more back in Federal money than they pay in. Conversely, most blue states pay in more than they get back.

So seems like he is calling a spade a spade. So what is your point?

Moreover, almost every Republican including the President ought to apologize for their insinuations and characterizations of Massachusetts durring the 2004 election.

Or really, for that matter, they ought to apologize to the people of San Fransisco as well.

So what that's not the issue.

He was being asked a question vis-a-vis his apparent rise to chairman of the ways and means committee, he insulted an entire state. He has appologized.

I'm sorry this argument doesn't make sense.

That's like me saying "Who would feel safe in Inner City L.A." and then being "surprised" when people call me racist.

Well yes, Blacks are probably the majority in Inner City L.A., but Inner City L.A. is simply a place in a city, not a race....therefore there's no way that could be a bigotted statement or possibly racists.

You see, that's where you're completely wrong. How could you even say that blacks are the majority in Inner City L.A.? Of course they aren't, Mexicans are! :rofl

Perhaps because no one gives a ****. Is this really the biggest thing you have to be outraged about these days?

No just one of them. Are you only able to deal with one issue at a time or something?
