A 2016 settlement regarding the Nina Simone Charitable Trust refers to Harris multiple times for her "primary responsibility for supervising charitable trusts in California" as state attorney general.

"The Attorney General asserts that [Lisa Simone] Kelly breached her fiduciary duty to the Estate and to the Charitable Trust and wrongfully diverted Estate assets. The Attorney General seeks to surcharge Kelly for amounts totaling $5,937,749.42 plus over $2.5 million in interest, which the Attorney General contends is far more than one-half of the Estate's value during [Lisa Simone] Kelly's administration of the Estate," the settlement reads.

Even though it is a nice consistent source of humor, you have to question how hypocritical the right will get in finding then clinging to anything they can find on someone on the left. Accurate or not, conspiracy theory or worse.

My guess is that she'd cackle that oddly disturbing cackle that she uses so often and make some oddly disturbing, unrelated reference to something that has no connection to any sane thought on the matter.

Or we could actually find out the facts of this case, and not be suckered by every white-right hit piece which appears against any sitting Democrat.

We know from a lot of experience that if a Republican is moving their lips, they are lying.

What did Harris do, precisely, that was not within the performance of her duties? Or, even if within such performance, did she do that you disagree with related to the claims being made by Simone-Kelly?

She agreed to everything that was done in a settlement but now she realizes she doesn't have any money, so she's bitching and blaming AG Harris for stopping her from stealing from a trust. Boo Hoo.

So the real question is how much did which Republican PAY her for this hit piece on Harris.
 
For those who wish to get a less biased view of this case, the agreement, let's look at the settlement itself.


So it seems that the daughter of Nina Simone was given a condo from her mother's will, Nina's brother got her house in France, there were "2 small monetary gifts" and the rest of the money went to a Trust for some sort of musical education/opportunity/knowledge. This was in 2003, when Ms. Simone passed. Then in 2011, the daughter challenged this, stating that since her mother was living in France, some French law applied that would apparently override the will and she should get half her mother's estate, including that house in France and some/half the money in the Trust. She continues to assert that she is entitled to half her mother's estate because of a French law, rather than in accordance with her mother's will.

I wonder why she did that. Is it possible that the alternative would have been worse? I wonder if Ms. Kelly was able to avoid jail time for her part of the bargain.

Harris' office wanted to surcharge her $6 million plus $2.5 million in interest but agreed to the final outcome of giving up the rights to her mother's work.

This is just rich entitled people stuff. She was stealing money from the estate, that was supposed to help musical education/opportunity/knowledge -- and was not prosecuted for it, nor did she have to return the money that she didn't work one second to earn but now is bitching.
 
One of those things that can’t be proven either way.

As far as cackling goes, it seems it is equal opportunity for men and women. Remember Alan Alda in MASH? An annoying thing in either sex.
