Nike airs Olympics ad featuring transgender athleteTransgender athlete Chris Mosier is being featured in a new Nike video, titled "Unlimited Courage," which depicts the athlete running, cycling and working out while explaining the uncertainty he faced while tirelessly working toward his goals. The video is part of a broader Nike campaign highlighting athletes who are pushing boundaries. Moiser, who has competed in both duathlons and triathlons since 2009, became the first openly transgender (F-M) athlete to compete as part of a U.S. National Team after placing seventh in a 2015 duathlon."Every success that I've had since then has shown me that anything is really possible," Mosier said in a statement. "By not stopping myself, not limiting myself and just really going for it, I've learned a lot about myself and also had the opportunity to further the conversation on trans inclusion in sports."

"Chris's passion and achievements inspired us to both tell his story and inspire athletes everywhere to push beyond their limits," a Nike spokesperson told NBC OUT via email. "We are committed to diversity and inclusion and support a level playing field for all athletes."Mosier said being the first transgender man on a U.S. National Team was a "dream come true" for him."I always wanted my name on a jersey," Mosier added. "To represent our country at the highest level, in my sport, is just outstanding. It's just such an amazing opportunity — and an amazing opportunity for other people to see themselves reflected in someone succeeding in sports as a trans man."

Awesome story, and awesome job Chris!!! Most of us support you! And yet people want to make laws to discriminate against him and FORCE him to use the ladies room . . you know . . so people don't have their feelings hurt or made uncomfortable. They like to make up the claim that there is a right to not feel uncomfortable LOL

also for the record I personally do have some issues with this topic in some ways BUT I leave it up to medical professionals to guide us and make the rules. For example I would not support a male MMA fighter becoming transgender and switching to female combat in the same month lol BUT if the medical community is involved and makes the regulations Im fine with it. I'm weird like that, i let facts and the medical science community make the determination not my feelings and meaningless opinions.

My youngest brother-a big time HS middle distance star-was in Germany after the wall came down supervising a big architectural project for his NY based firm. When he had some free time he followed the trials going on of "doctors" and trainers who helped the East german "women" swimmers and track athletes of both genders (including the guy who stole the gold medal from Frank Shorter in the Marathon) dope their way to wins. Kornelia Ender and the Marathon guy (Walter Cierpenski (sp)] both testified to all the injections, pills and other things given them. If IIRC some of the athletes had cancers consistent with doping

Not where I lived, a conservative midwest hamlet...well we were a small town, some folks said we one of them cities....I liked to think of it as a hamlet anyways. Anyways, I was on the ground at the time, people said the most gruesome things, like they were FrankenBeasts and and OMG what would you do if you found yourself in bed with one of them....are we allowed to kill them?

I agree the possibility of that could happen but i cant make the decision of how and when thats why i would leave it up to the medical community.
Not that you said anything different but for example A male that starts treatment at 14 years old and wants to compete at 21 is different from a male body builder all the way to age 26 who starts treatment and wants to compete with females at age 27. So Id leave that to the pros, maybe theres a line that can never be reversed?

a lot of the women went on afterward to have malformed babies and pregnancies due to the doping as well.
I don't think they ever recovered the damage that was done.

Whether Chris Mosier has an advantage or not is a question of testosterone levels. Any endurance athlete on 100 mg of exogenous testosterone a week will probably have an advantage over other athletes and if they are on 135 mg of exogenous testosterone a week they will almost certainly have an advantage. Reason being is that 135 mg of test a week puts you at the top end of natural production.

Let's say that athlete Bill's natural testosterone levels average a high 800 ng / dl. Athlete Bob is on exogenous testosterone at a dosage of 135 mg of test a week. His testosterone level median is in the 800 ng /dl range. So on the face of it, it looks like they are at similar levels.

Here is the problem though. Both of them are training hard for the olympics. Both are running in excess of 60 miles per week, riding in excess of 100 miles per week, swimming, and strength training. This training results in both of them hemolizing a lot RBCs and thus has the potential of reducing their HCT. Bill because he is completely natural will see his free testosterone levels decline by quite a lot after hard runs or rides. Bob because he is on exogenous test will not see such a decline in free t after hard endurance training. This means that Bob's body does a better job of protein synthesis for muscle repair and due to his consistently higher free t levels will have higher natural EPO levels and thus better RBC production, thus Bob will maintain a higher HCT even with hard training.

That all said Bill may well still have better genetics than Bob, may start with a higher vo2 max, and thus may still be faster and stronger. However, all things being equal, Bob on exogenous test will have a small advantage.

But at the end of the week, that child uses his pittance to purchase medicine and walk home where his ill mother lives and because this poor little kid works slave hours and wages in a Nike factory, he's able to afford the medicine that makes his mother better.

And now you can feel better about supporting child labor at near slave wages.
