The verdict is in. America is over the entitled whining athlete. Pro sports are tanking'----------

Last weekend, we noted that primetime ratings for 'woke' Major League Baseball dropped over 30% - which joined the 'woke' NBA in a ratings disaster.

Now, the NFL appears to be suffering as well - with this year's socially distanced season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs - the reigning Super Bowl champs, stomping the Houston Texans 34-20 with dismal ratings as well.

And while that -16.1% figure will undoubtedly improve as more data comes in, one would think viewership would increase after cooped-up Americans spent the last six months heavily consuming TV shows and movies (which were seemingly exhausted by the end of June).

Perhaps wokeness has taken its toll - as even a "racial unity" moment during last night's game was booed by fans.

I said months ago that pro sports was cutting its own throat. People want to watch games, not be preached at by "woke" sports figures and blowhard owners.

No, people are waking up to the unabashed commercialism and money-grubbing of sports, amateur or professional. At least the European leagues state that they “sell” players. It’s the golden goose syndrome.

Hopefully you are right. Maybe taxpayers will quit financing sport facilities. I never supported having taxpayers pay full or in part some facility so overpaid athletes can play a game.

BS Rex, commercialism has always been there, and yet may still be a small part of it, but people are tuning out because of the politics for the most part.

Well I, for one, refuse to play. No contract could induce me to play. If you think that I'm gonna put this 70 year old body out there for peanuts, you got another thing coming. Who's gonna help me up if I have to kneel?

The cap situation for next year is already dire from Covid. If people don't tune in, it's a double whammy. There goes those contracts.

The billionare owners demand tax breaks from cities for their stadiums and it’s the “overpriced players’” who are responsible for that?

Funny now it’s always the folks who bring the literal value who are proclaimed to be “overpriced.” These sports do not exist without these players. If htey walked off tomorrow, their management would feel the pain much more than they do.

I have to disagree; the NFL has sucked for years. The hypocrisy has been in-your-face, for a while. Years ago the NFL was touting how they were all about “protecting the players,” while they were marketing the “greatest hits” videos. This is just another case of blatant greed killing the golden goose. The NFL isn’t alone.......

I wonder how the average player salary in 2024 will compare to the average player salary in 2016?

I wonder how the average ticket price in 2024 will compare to the average ticket price in 2016?

:) Just thinking about makes me feel all warm and cozy....

Where did I say the players were responsible for it? There are many businesses that get "tax breaks". What I am talking about is using tax dollars to pay for the facility. Look up what happened in Arizona in building the Cardinals stadium.

Yes, I believe most NFL players are overpaid. You can disagree, I don't care.

I hate it too. Burn the reality is it may have been a good business move. They were screwed either way. If they get the crazy left down on them, their ratings would still tank and the woke players would make life difficult for them.

Right wingers in general need their football more than left wingers. And they are more forgiving as bunch, they will move on like they did wi5 the anthem for the most part. The left will not let it go and demonize whichever sport didn’t go along and hound them to edge of hell.

Thanks for the great news!

Maybe ordinary people are not so stupid as the Dem bigwigs think.

I was especially happy to read that some people had the guts to boo that "unity moment."

When the BLM-friendly Dems take over in a few months, this country will need all the people of guts possible. (I am not one of them. I am a lifelong coward. If they order me to raise my fist, I will raise TWO fists and empty my wallet for a "voluntary" donation to the magnificent cause.)

If you were standing between me and the end zone, you’d be a smear 2 seconds later.

I already stopped watching basketball due mainly to the rank hypocrisy of it being dominated by tall black men and no one dares claim that it is racist. I have dropped baseball, and now football. Football used to be my favorite sport. Butrwhen the insult America and our troops by staying in the locker room and now annoncers and white team owners are showing solidarity, that's it.

I am not alone in this. Where do these entitlement minded overpaid athletes think their millions come from? They are like socialists who think they will still be taken care of.

The tax breaks were because the cities benefit from having people go to the games. It's cool. It will garner as much interest as the Roller Derby this year.
