NFL Offseason News 2021

Dak Prescott is not going anywhere. The Cowboys will tag him again if they can't reach a long-term deal. His ankle recovery is on or ahead of schedule.

I never understood why the media makes up Derek Carr rumors.

Why wouldn't Russell Wilson be interested in the Panthers? He went to college at North Carolina State before transferring to Wisconsin.
we don't have an offensive line to protect him (or the coveted watson)

All four of those teams have above average offensive lines, when healthy. For a guy tired of getting hit so much, his list makes sense.

This is about branding, control, and power.

The Seahawks are a sinking ship. They are owned by the sister of the owner that died last year. She is most likely unqualified and should sell the team.

It looks like she is keeping the team and giving unlimited power to Pete Carroll to make all football decisions. The Seahawks could be the Detroit Lions for the next decade or two.

Having a lot of money does not make one qualified to be a good owner. Hell, even billionaires who had tremendous success in the business world have failed as owners - See Dan Snyder

Jody Allen is the sister of one of the co-founders of Microsoft. I am not surprised Russell Wilson is looking for a divorce.

Wilson is looking for an ownership stake in the company.

Out of all those teams, the Cowboys make the most sense. Tons of media attention with extremely delusional fans who think their team will win the Super Bowl every year.

Wilson can cry all he wants, but even the very best offensive line can't help him if he continues to take off like he does from the pocket on passing situations.

QB's like Manning and Brady are easier to block for because the linemen know that they will work within the blocking scheme until it breaks down.

In Wilsons's entire career, the highest his offensive line has ranked, according to Pro Football Focus, is 14th.

If your QB is unpredictable.......that is what you get.

Even the NFL insiders say that Wilson needs to accept a lot of the blame for all the hits he takes.

Wilson is not an elite QB period.

Wilson's playoff record when the Seahawks had an elite defense: 6-2

Wilson's playoff record when the Seahawks built the team around him: 3-5.

The SB against the Patriots exposed him.

Wilson has taken 394 sacks in his nine seasons, including 47 in 2020. He was sacked a league-high 48 times in 2019 and took a career-high 51 in 2018.

There are plenty of mobile QBs in the league, who don't get hit nearly as much as he does. For example, Lamar Jackson got sacked 27 times last year and Josh Allen 26.

Wilson is a elite QB regardless.

He is a elite QB who doesn't accept his flaws and make the adjustments.

He holds onto the ball too long looking for big plays, and doesn't work with his linemen enough to form pocket schemes like a Brady and Manning.

If your line doesn't know which way you are going, then it doesn't matter.

Manning and Brady are proof and they are two of the slowest QB's of all time.

Cam Newtown thought he was tough shit until the hits stacked up.

Superman's cape became joke.

Wilson's sacks are a product of his play. He holds onto the ball way too long and tries to play hero football.

He's a B+ QB who now thinks he is an A+ QB.

The problem with Wilson is now Hubris and Jealousy. When he came into the league he was a mid-round pick, a humbled married young man just focused on winning.

Now he is married to a celebrity and rarely talks about team football. All I hear from him is legacy and wanting input on team decisions.

Russell Wilson has definitely gone Hollywood. He's also extremely jealous of Tom Brady because his wife rooted for him in the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning was a shotgun specialist. The Colts ran a high-tempo, usually no-huddle offense, so all $18 needed to do was find an open target and get the ball out of his hand. Gary Kubiak's reluctance to use a shotgun formation offense showed Peyton was not able to avoid sacks while taking snaps from under center. Of course the Broncos did not have an elite offensive line to help Peyton, but his career path is one reason I prefer QBs who can run all over the field if they have to. Any offensive line can be great one season and terrible the next.

Take it or leave it.

There's no overstating Wilson's production and importance to the Seahawks, whose ascendance to contention has coincided with Wilson's rise to prominence. The former third-round pick has exceeded all expectations set for him since he was selected out of Wisconsin in the 2012 NFL Draft, and though he's yet to receive a single AP NFL Most Valuable Player vote, he's been a premier quarterback for the majority of his time in Seattle. The Seahawks simply go as Wilson goes, and though there have been reports of a rift between he and the Seattle coaching staff, everyone involved knows all too well they're not much without each other.

got any examples that would show us this is a valid observation, where the same OL players were great one season and awful during another

When the Raiders went 12-4 and clinched a wild card berth, their offensive line was ranked #2 behind the Cowboys. The next year, it went keput.

the same players?
what years?

Oakland Raiders 2002-2003.

Barret Robbins, Frank Middleton, Mo Collins, Barry Sims, Lincoln Kennedy.

A better example is SB Raiders that got blown out by the Bucs. Barrett Robbins was a pro bowl center and went MIA during the SB. He came back the next year and the Raider's offense was horrible.

How about the fact Tua Tagovailoa did not play enough for the coaches to see everything he can do? The Dolphins alternated between him and Ryan Fitzpatrick for both medical and performance reasons. Also remember he was the fifth overall pick. The media likes to make up unbelievable rumors for clickbait, so I will take this one with a grain of salt unless the Dolphins confirm they are interested in returning Tua to backup status.
I have not written Tua off yet but I also am not high on him either. He did not have a single game that his performance impressed me. My hope is that he just needs a bit of time for the game to slow down for him.

It is amazing though how one player can dramatically impact the offensive line.

I saw HOF guard Steve Hutchinson. One of the greatest guards in the 2000 decade. He signed with the Vikings and the Seahawks line never was the same while the Vikings gained.

The Colts have a special guard named Quenton Nelson. I honestly believe he is a top ten NFL player in the entire league. I believe he is on par with players like Derrick Henry or Stefon Diggs.

Before Nelson, the Colts were a mediocre running team. Ever since they drafted him they have become an elite rushing team without an elite running back. I believe he didn't give up a sack this season either.

BALCO was distributing the 'clear' to the raiders in 2002 and before
in the summer of 2003 BALCO was under investigation and the access to 'clear' ended

correlates to the fall off of the line's performance
but that example does answer my question. blue donkey's observation is a valid one

He was sent home one day before the Super Bowl and did not play.
