Isn't that a human rights violation or something? Good grief. That's worse then using rubber bullets.

You gonna jail all the grandmas? They did it. They know what they did.

True. Mr. Manilow is famous for his "adult contemporary" music (much being reflected as elevator music nowadays).

Playing certain songs on a forever loop would be multiple times more annoying than riding for a short while in an elevator. ;)

The protesters are doing the right thing, countering with various popular rock artists.

The only way to fight the evil.

I have interests in NZ and have been getting updates from friends. Funny as anything in a NZ humor way. Seems there is a hardcore of general anarchists left complaing about the wrongs of the world. They set up tents in a park outside the NZ main govt building and used their cars to block traffic through that area.

After a couple of days to let the protests be heard, the police set up a fence around the park where they were obstructing people, then the Barry Manilow etc, then a cyclone arrived on top of them, and now their cars are getting impounded.

Like every country they have a number of semi professional anarchists that turn up at any major protest to cause trouble. So once the 'genuine' protestors leave, the gloves come off a little. They generally handle protests there pretty well and they seldom get out of control as the police work closely with the organisers on any legitimate protest that wants a big public stage. You can protest hard and loud, but no tolerance for OTT anarchy. No one carrys weapons usually so actual violence other than scuffles when the anarchists are being arrested is rare. Wasn't always like that though. They learned a lot about effective protest management during some huge unrest during the early 1980's.

Is it working?

Seems Manilow couldn't do it on his own. He has been reinforced by Celine Dion and the Macerena. The macarena unfortunely led to outbreaks of public dancing among the more elderly protestors.

James Blunt has also offered his help apparently. Music has now been interspersed with the govts vaccination adverts as well it seems. Got to love the humor. No one has been shot yet, and no buildings burned. No attempt to 'storm the capitol' and hang the deputy PM either.

Twisted Sister!!! Damn them. Send in the troops.

I still sometimes read the NZ news online. Funny article recently about an (anonymous) expat American living there whose brother is planning to visit from the US with a genuine vax certificate that he managed to buy without being vax'd. His comment that made me chuckle was '"they (NZ) have no idea how corrupt that (US) place is".

Poor expat has obviously bought into the low corruption thinking and was wondering if he could in all consciousness let his brother stay with him if he visits. Said he wouldn't turn his brother in to the police though. Something like 98% vax rate there. Omicron spreading all over, but almost no one in hospital let alone dying.

This is a group of around three thousand. We have had demonstrations of thirty thousand. That sort of number represents a fair proportion of the population, three thousand not so much. Even in the springboc demonstrations over 150,000 thousand people took part and that had an equal amount of people demonstrating the rugby games with africa should play.

The dark side of this though is that school children have been taunted at and threatened while nearby shops had to close because demonstrators were blocking them. The streets around parliment are closed off which is inconvenient because it is part of main road. Wellington is not only one of the worst airports for cross winds but the roads are narrow winding nightmares.

They are nothing more than a fringe element. All our crazies in one spot. So tempting to drop some 1080 on them.

You can't make this stuff up!

The protestors responded by playing Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It..."

My guess is the party lasted well into the night - maskless. :)
"I Wanna Rock" would've been inappropriate considering the situation i guess.

Protesters should obey the 1 metre distancing recommendation of the government.

Not because it's the law (it's not) but just because they'd block up much more of the city that way!
