New York Times reporter slammed for seeking ‘opposition research’ on Christian schools

Dan Levin, who covers American youth for the Times, took to Twitter in hopes to seek testimonials about people’s experiences while attending Christian schools.

The #ExposingChristianSchools was the result of the viral firestorm that took place in the wake of the confrontation between the Covington Catholic High School students and Native American elder Nathan Phillips last weekend.

Isn't Levin a Jewish name. What would happen if a Conservative reporter decided to do a story designed to stereotype Jewish schools by posting out the bigotry of few examples? Is Levin guilty of hate speech, since if the shoe was on the other foot, it would be called hate speech. What is the punishment for hate speech? Did the NYT fire him? I am pointing out the hypocrisy that is common to the left.

A better investigative report by Levin is to compare the psychological health of the snowflakes, who come out of Left leaning secular education, versus the psychological health of those who go to Catholic Schools, to see who is more psychologically fit. The boys with the MAGA hats were able to diffuse an angry situation that included angry adults. The snowflakes would have melted. I hope Levin can point this out and is be not a self serving hack; anything for money.

The left are bullies who are empowered by Christians turning the other cheek. Christianity merged with Rome in the 4th century. Rome would approach this hypocrisy differently. The compromise is let the left set the rules of the game, which include dual standards and cheating. We play by their rules. A surgeon can get his hands dirty cutting out a cancer. He wears disposable gloves.

Dan Levin is Catholic. He attended Holy Cross High School in Queens NY, college at the Newhouse School of Journalism in Syracuse NY. He regularly covers youth articles and opinion pieces for the Times and other publications. He's written scathing articles about the failure of local Yeshivas to educate their students beyond religious training, and the psychological deficits of their cultural isolation from surrounding communities.

Now you can get off your high horse, and try understanding this is a media frenzy of no substance. The boys involved are not heroes, nor are the Native Americans who were doing their thing. A few provocateurs turned this into a big nothing. You've been suckered. You get no bread with one meatball.

Beyond looking terrible, it would most certainly cost a reporter his job, and possibly career, after he was thoroughly branded as an antisemite. He would never land a job at a major news organization again. Which should also answer the second part of your post.

I despise hypocrisy, double standards, and deceit. If that equates to antisemitism by today's values, then what should that tell you?

Oh, so Jews are deceitful, hypocritical, double-standard bearers. That's not classic anti-Semitism or anything.

Why not just throw in that they use the blood of gentile children in their crackers? That's about where you are.

Red:
  • How do you (or anyone) know what Levin's story is designed to do? When, on Jan 25, 2019, Fox published the article noted in the OP, the story for which Levin seeks interviewees hadn't yet been published.
  • Levin stated he was writing about the hashtag, not about Christianity/Christian schools as the Fox headline, "New York Times reporter slammed for seeking ‘opposition research’ on Christian schools," asserts.

    Dxt0Nr6WkAEyHvQ.jpg
  • The creator of the hashtag, Chris Stroop, not the NYT reporter Levin, exhorted folks to use the hashtag to tell specific individuals "how traumatizing those bastions [Christian schools] of bigotry are."
  • Levin's article, "‘Everyone Was Taught to Be Accepting.’ Readers Share Stories of Their Christian Educations," ran on January 29, 2019. In it, Levin tells the story of the hashtag's genesis and of his exposition about it, noting his approach to information gathering: "We asked people on Twitter to share their experiences of Christian schools. We received hundreds of responses from people of all ages and Christian backgrounds, from Evangelical to Catholic." Levin then shares the responses received from people who responded to his request for anecdotes.

Before relating specific anecdotes, Levin summarizes the character of the stories respondents shared:
    • "Many expressed gratitude for the faith-based education they received, while others described trauma and rejection. Many others expressed a combination of both. All were eager to explain how their schooling shaped their lives and worldviews."
  • Levin's article includes three anecdotes in each of the following genres:
    • Stories of those who struggled with bullying and depression
    • Stories about about lasting pain and confusion
    • Stories of love and acceptance of others
  • Levin's article doesn't stereotype anyone. Indeed, Levin doesn't even comment on the anecdotes people shared with him.

Blue:
That's your idea of an article to write. I suggest you research and write it. Alternatively, you could apply for the editor's job at the NYT, whereafter, assuming you're hired, you could then direct Levin to write such an article.

lol...just admit, you showed your ass, and we can all go for a beer. Dang, bud. :party

Keep reading before you show too much of your ass.

Far too many journalists (topic of OP) are in fact deceitful, hypocritical, and promote double standards. Rather than acknowledging the above statement, you accuse me of being in the wrong for pointing out a fact.

Why not just throw in that they use the blood of gentile children in their crackers? That's about where you are.

An American Jewish author received much acclaim for his book which argued that Germans were inherently genocidal by nature, a result of genetic defect. He wasn't accused of prejudice, and was even invited to give several talks in Germany, where he received a warm welcome at university.

Promoting stereotypes is perfectly acceptable in society, as long as those stereotypes only target the so-called non-protected class.

Got it. You are unapologetic in your anti-Semitism.

Who do I owe an apology to? The Jewish journalist working on behalf of a Jewish owned newspaper which is staffed by other Jewish journalists and editors.... who hate Christians? Lol, get a clue Harshaw.

Breitbart and WND are just two of the websites slamming the reporter for his "attack on Christian schools". Good grief! Read his tweet. Mr Levin is not asking for stories that are negative, he is simply asking for people to talk with him about their personal experiences while attending one of those 'churchy' schools. If most of the tales told are negative, then there just might be a problem; but, until his article is published neither you nor me KNOW what is in the article.

When righties rant about lefties marching in lockstep toward a 'socialist' paradise like Venezuela, one might come to think they, the conservatives, are simply transferring their own desires to make The Handmaid's Tale a reality.

Thank you for injecting some sanity into the discussion. It appears that the only way the Alt-right can get any relief from Mueller's "bad news" is lashing out at journalists seeking to do their job. The curious thing about the outrage is that they are assuming that the invitation will bring nothing but bad stories about Christian schools. They must know something we don't.

Actually humans are ALL genocidal by nature. Anyone who studies history know that. Even our closest relative the chimpanzee has the same genocidal nature so it must come from some ancient common ancestor.

The author decided to ascribe genocidal tendencies to one specific group, Germans. I guess his research capabilities precluded him from discovering who perpetrated the holomodor (5-10 million dead) & the Russian revolution (9.5 million dead).

Not familiar with the story? Levin solicited for stories that would 'expose Christian schools', the same day the Covington story broke. He was overwhelmed with positive stories from people who said attending Christian school bettered them. As usual, you're a day late and a dollar short.

I am familiar with the Priest who wrote a story for CNN who criticized those school children for disrespecting their elders, their chaperone for letting them stay there and the school for permitting the wearing of the MAGA hats while they were representing their school. I agree with all of his criticisms, it showed a shameful lack of supervision and discipline. Perhaps that is the reason for Levin's interest in what goes on in other Catholic schools around the country.
