Jeff Bezos won’t be taking the subway to Amazon’s planned new headquarters in Queens.

New Yorkers, take note: While you commute in dilapidated and decaying subways, know that Jeff Bezos will be able to rely on a more upscale mode of transit to get to Amazon’s forthcoming New York City headquarters in Queens.

That’s because New Yorkers are buying a helipad for Bezos, the richest man in the world.

Buried in the 32-page, $1.5 billion agreement between New York’s various economic development agencies and Amazon is a promise by the city to help the company secure rights to a helipad on, “or in reasonable proximity to,” the company’s new site in Long Island City.
===============================
There's also a helipad included in the Arlington, VA HQ2 site.

There's something desperately wrong with this picture when taxpayers are underwriting the cost of luxury transportation for very rich people.

I guess there goes my dreams of Bezos renovating the Long Island Railroad...

I totally agree. I would like to know why the taxpayers are paying for this helipad. And I am still waiting for an explanation why taxpayers paid for Melanoma's security service when she refused to move to the whitehouse and stayed at trump towers. Not moving because of Barren was complete BS.

Reminds me of August Belmont. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_Belmont. He had a special rail car & siding at his residence in Manhattan to take him & his guests to the Belmont Park racetrack. Must have been nice!

See https://untappedcities.com/2016/06/...mont-jr-s-private-nyc-subway-car-the-mineola/. He was one of the financiers of the IRT subway line & had a special private track to take the car, named Mineola, from his Belmont Hotel to Grand Central Terminal & thence to the LIRR with connecting trackage that could take him anywhere on the East coast.

Is there any way we can make this Trump's fault?

You should ask yourself why De Blasio, Cuomo, and construction unions are all grinning and patting each other on the back right now, before you continue your rant about taxpayers subsidizing Amazon.

This was a roundabout way for De Blasio and Cuomo to fill union coffers, who in turn fund their election campaigns.

Blame unions for New York’s pricey giveaway to Amazon

Thank Cuomo for being suckered. WTG Dems.

Amazon places prime order, Cuomo delivers.

Jeff Bezos is playing us for fools.

Think about it. The world's richest man just got politicians, including our Andrew Cuomo, to give one of most profitable companies on the planet billions of dollars to build in the country's two wealthiest areas.

It makes no logical sense, but Bezos is rich for a reason. He is much smarter than dupes like Cuomo. He's probably smarter than all of us.

And he's laughing all the way to a monopoly.

What Gov. Cuomo doesn't seem to realize is that Bezos would have chosen New York without the billions. By building in Queens and suburban Washington, Amazon will have "headquarters" — the word is a misnomer for what New York is really getting — proximate to the nation's financial and governmental centers of power. How perfect for a company that has already proven successful at manipulating power to quash competition.

Under the agreements — negotiated in secret, of course — Amazon will receive $1.5 billion in subsidies from New York and $573 million from Virginia, plus an additional $200 million from each state for bonus jobs created; $300 million from a Virginia infrastructure fund, and an additional $1.3 billion in tax breaks from New York City.

That's according to Yahoo News, which pegs the total subsidy to Amazon from both states at a staggering $4.2 billion, including the interest taxpayers will pay for borrowing on the project.
