[h=2]The AG contends Donald Trump improperly inflated the value of his businesses.[/h]New York State Attorney General Letitia James has called on a judge to compel Eric Trump to comply with a subpoena as part of the state's investigation into the Trump Organization's financial dealings.
The investigation stems from Congressional testimony by Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen who said the president's "annual financial statements inflated the values of Trump's assets to obtain favorable terms for loans and insurance coverage, while also deflating the value of other assets to reduce real estate taxes," James said in a statement.
The New York AG's office has been investigating the Trump Organization for over a year on various deals, including the attempted purchase of the Buffalo Bills, according to court papers. James said despite offering cooperation, the organization has not turned over key documents her office has sought in the investigation, and has instructed key witnesses, including Donald Trump's son Eric, to refuse to testify under oath despite subpoenas.

Andrew Weissmann was just on Rachel Maddow and he explained this civil case and also the criminal case against the Trump organization.
Andrew Weissmann, Attorney; In 2015 he became the chief of the criminal fraud section of the U.S. Department of Justice. In June 2017 he was appointed to a management role on the 2017 special counsel team headed by Robert Mueller.on the Mueller Investigation
"This is a civil fraud case, not a criminal fraud case but it could become that. Allegations that Eric Trump and the Trump organization were responsible for not reporting 100 million dollars of income and inflating deductions to the tune of 46 million dollars in properties in Westchester, Chicago, Los Angeles and across the country. This could not be more serious in terms of what it is that the Attorney General is looking at.
There is also a criminal case involving Trump's business filed by the NY District Attorney that is also in process. The ruling whether or not the DA can subpoena tax returns will come from the SC perhaps as early as this week.
Eric Trump is notable in the filing made in NY today that he refused to testify in the New York Attorney General lawsuit saying that he was very concerned about whether his testimony would be used in the New York criminal case. The Attorney General told him 'no' we're not coordinating with them. Clearly by his refusal to testify by what he said "under the Constitution" which is code for asserting his Fifth Amendment, clearly he's worried about what it is that the NY District Attorney -- the criminal side -- is doing.
So you have someone who is going to give a speech at the convention tonight who is refusing to testify either in the state criminal case and state civil case."

I can understand how Eric Trump feels.
Cohen, who admitted way back when that he had nothing on Trump to affect the campaign investigation, is probably angry he didn't get a "pardon." Hence his willingness to "deal" with the NY State AG.
So IMO it's another Democrat witch-hunt. Of course, when one has a dedicated group of witch-hunters willing to pull out all the stops and go down any road to find a witch?
They are sure to find someone who fits the bill to burn on a pyre.
Does the phrase “I don’t recall” ring a bell, Eric Trump does not have to say a word to this leftist hoodlum AG

You can’t assert your fifth amendment rights remotely.. you have to appear and assert them under oath.
This will be heard in a real court, not Trump supporter fantasy court.

Relax, he will get around to it
So, the NY AG has decided to take up another case that is highly political in nature while not being able to conduct any fraud investigations against anyone from the financial crisis. Justice may be blind in NY but it sure smells.
And rudy going to ukraine and barr going to italy to find some dirt on biden was ok, right?
the Trumps need to hire this defense attorney. i wonder if he was disbarred...
Barr went to Italy to hear the recorded deposition by Mifsud. Not really swayed by whatabout, the SD of NY takes up lots of cases they shouldn't both jurisdictionally, and politically. Look at the Bannon/Kolfage case and the NRA one. Not to mention the remedies they seek do not fit current precedence nor are they effective remedies for the purported illegal actions they claim.
NY is acting as the tip of the spear for Democrat causes and using lawfare to try to curb conservative causes and organizations.
The Trumps honestly think they're above the law and somehow they've managed to convince his supporters that this is a good idea.
His supporters will dismiss any and all charges made against the family no matter how well argued or how much evidence there is as just a witchhunt.
It's classic cultlike behavior to never admit any wrongdoing by the cult leadership.
So you said all that to say nothing should be done. Am I getting that correctly?
Why is NY going after people that are not residents in their state? How would you feel if Texas started prosecuting BLM groups for terrorism---in Dallas?
You should examine what NY and the SDNY is doing because they are acting in ways you would not want more conservative venues acting. It protects all of us when jurisdiction has proper boundaries and is held accountable locally for their prosecutorial decisions. That's why its important to mention that the SDNY office never held anyone responsible for the financial crisis, despite it being within their jurisdictional boundaries. Plenty of corruption in this case and not all of it limited to the defendants.
Once again, all that to say nothing should be done? Am I getting that correctly?
If there is something illegal going on it shouldn't need to be taken up by an outside jurisdiction as a political issue---it should be taken up where Kolfage resides. Do you agree or disagree?
This case isn't about fraud, its about shutting down conservative causes. Its not that nothing should be done, but it should be done by a politically unbiased prosecutor----which means not NY.
As an aside, how many people do you think that donated to the wall fund, were satisfied with how the funds were spent? Do some homework before you answer that. There were 2 GoFund me pages, that's your first clue.
