New York attorney general investigating Trump over financial statements | TheHill

New York state Attorney General Letitia James (D) is investigating whether President Trump illegally inflated his assets to attract investors and earn loans, her office revealed in court documents on Monday.

James asked a judge to force the president's son, Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization to comply with subpoenas as part of the investigation. Her office said in the court filings that the investigation is ongoing and authorities haven't determined whether the president's businesses violated the law.

The New York attorney general opened the investigation in March 2019 after the president's former attorney, Michael Cohen ratted out Trump about things like hush payments to porn stars.

This election campaign is going to get very interesting as sordid details become public.

I have no doubt that the Trump Organization and Eric Trump and the whole damn family including the president will be more than happy to open their books to prove their innocence. They have nothing to hide, right?

Political hackery in New York. This AG just wants to attack Trump to get re-elected.

Too bad for you that the burden of proof is on the AG.

All of these delaying tactics are going to come crashing to an end on January 21, 2021. Judges do in fact grant Presidents a certain leeway that they don't grant to just anybody else. And once Trump ceases to be President, the patience judges have been extending to him will be exhausted.

I don't have a dog in the fight. I'm certain all parties will act according to the law. The faster the Trump group can get their requested financials over to the SDNY the quicker the whole thing will be handled. Who doesn't want that?

Because Bluetex said the AG can't launch a criminal investigation, private.

BlueTex knows the difference between a civil and criminal investigation... Are you unaware that subpoenas can be issued in civil cases?

You first.

Do you remember how, when the British still controlled the US colonies, the people here had to tiptoe around the British governors? Had to be very careful what they said or did around them?

That reminds me a lot of how our legal system treats a sitting president.

Good God you're old.

How dare he invoke rights afforded to every individual under the Constitution! :2mad:

What rights, specifically do you think he is invoking?

You first.

Take this as a solemn oath, when I become the President, hell, when I run for the office of president, I will release my complete financial records to the public.
