OK, I admit I'm old, but I grew up in the era of rock and roll, and I just don't get todays's music.......some of it it really good, a lot of it isn't..... Not trying to be a downer......weigh in?????

My stored music list pretty much stops somewhere in the1980s. A few good songs that I really enjoy post that period, but not a huge number. Pretty much exactly like I remember my dad saying when I was a teenager living at home with my radio and cassette tapes pumping. Difference being that his preferences stopped in the 1950's pre R&R. One big difference however is that my 20 something son has been saved! After listening to my musical choices on enough father/son fishing trips his phone is now full of songs from the 60's/70's/80's instead of the 'rap' that he had been listening to.

Hey, I expanded my list into the 90's....barely, no that's not right....a lot into the 90's. Then is crashed.

I really liked a number of the acts. I haven't heard of most of them, because I don't really follow new music anymore. However, this year impressed me more than others. I was watching it on and off, but I saw Carrie Underwood, The Jonas Brothers, Teddy Swims, and one other group that I don't know the name of. I was excited to see Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick perform, and they were great. I can tell you as someone who is very familiar with outdoor shows and board mixes, the engineers mixed it well, and you were hearing more actual live vocals than I'm used to for shows like this. There was only one point at which I would have asked for a bit more vocal effect, but it didn't matter, because the singer is excellent. I'd give it a thumbs up.

So I Googled "Best songs of the 1990's" and yes I do have a few saved. Might need to confess that "my era" does in fact stretch into the 90's a little.

I just realized my all time fav song is "Sweet Child O Mine" Guns and Roses circa 1987, fav band is Pink Floyd.....shit. I'm so old. BUT I wouldn't change a thing... It is what it is!

I grew up on 60s-80s rock but I love lots of stuff
from the 90s through today. In fact was just listening to
the Dua Lipa / Elton John duet "Cold Heart" at a NYE party and thinking "that is goddamned good.".

I've got a collection of vinyl and CDs that mostly goes through the 90s, but I love some of the more recent acts like the Black Keys, the Kings of Leon, and Joywave.

The group I think you didn’t recognize was London based “Jungle” playing a pre-taped couple of songs, the second being a smooth version of “Keep Moving.” That surprised me.

Big thumbs up from me, too.

I'm more fickle than that. Don't really have a long term favourite song or band. Day before Christmas my listening was mainly a bunch of Alice Cooper stuff, plus Gangsta paradise by Coolio, Sound of Silence by Disturbed, Zombie from the Cranberries, and a couple of Black Sabbath tunes. Today I was listening to mainly some Bowie and Rolling Stones nostalgia while doing a few chores. Tomorrow ????????

I saw the Beach Boys and Steve Miller at Giants Stadium in 1978. After that, I lived to go to concerts. Live music is my favorite entertainment. The bands would take the stage and play, for the most part, songs they'd written. They played their intruments live. They sang live.

That's what I enjoy.

All this drum machine, auto-tune, computer-created crap leaves me cold. An artist singing to piped in music with a bunch of people dancing around is not for me. I'd rather hear a singer sitting on a barstool and playing guitar solo. Live.

Don't worry @Jessie C, I don't follow most of today's artists either and it wouldn't be worth it for me to watch New Year's Rockin' Eve anymore. The only current artist I love is Dua Lipa. We watched Dua Lipa Live from The Royal Albert Hall with a symphony accompanying her and were blown away. She is one talented young lady. The rest... meh.

Same here. We recently saw Toto and Journey in concert. Also, Duran Duran and Chic. We've seen Stevie Nicks, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, Depeche Mode, Chrissy Hynde, Foreigner and others. There is nothing like a live concert!

I listen to a lot of stuff but I prefer the old masters, the classical composers.
Having said that, whatever tune catches my ear is fine. Naming the artist(s) is another story altogether.
It also depends on the mood, whether I am reading or cleaning or whatnot. I listen to Turkish RAP, Beethoven or anything in between.

I'm 75 and remember all the great bands of the 60s, there is nothing today that comes close. I'm also a pianist, guitarist, composer, and I love also the music of the 30s and 40s.
