New WV bill amends state definition of "obscene material" to include transgender people

The ability to groom children into believing cross dressing is desirable behavior is not Freedom.

The groomers are people who indoctrinate children into believing that they deserve to go to Hell. Righties don't care about that, though--in fact, many of them openly advocate it.

Blah blah blah blah

Teaching someone true things Is good. Teaching weird sex practices and fetishes to young children is not.

There is no evidence for the Hell that right-wing Christians are indoctrinating kids into believing.

Yes there is. Far more than for the idea that you can change your sex

West Virginia has one of the lowest standards of living and highest poverty rates in the country, and people are fleeing in droves.

So what do they do? Persecute trans people! 🤦‍♂️

And have sex with family members, but that's okay.

The cruelty is the point.

West Virginia.

That’s all that needs to be said.

It’s almost like these backwards states are having a race to the bottom.
As compared to where: Baltimore, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles?

Have you ever even been to West Virginia? Probably not.

A new bill proposed in West Virginia effectively makes it functionally illegal to be publicly transgender. It amends their definition of obscene material to include "any transgender exposure".

Conservatives view trans people as inherently sexual basically.

Obscene material (which now includes exposure to trans people) is banned within 2,500 feet of schools.

The punishment for exposing a minor to obscene material is a felony.

How would this effect transgender teachers or parents? What if you drive/walk past a school?

A recently proposed law of a similar nature effectively bans transgender people from performing in public, and possibly Shakespeare plays and movies like Ms Doubtfire.

The new round of anti-trans bills being introduced are far more worrying than previous laws. The end goal is clear. They view transgender people as a social contagen and existing in public as a sexual act, basically grooming children into being trans, and want to ban trans people from public life. They don't want them in media. They don't want them to teach. They don't want them to be parents. They wished they didn't exist at all.

It is very much part of the Christian nationalism movement.

Interestingly, it would seem now in West Virginia that any local newspaper, magazine purveyor or television that published or broadcast or sold a picture of far right Congressman George Santos in drag would be guilty of a felony.

What about Kabuki? And would that mean that if a parent was caught letting their child watch To Wong Fu Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar or The Birdcage or Hairspray would they also be facing criminal prosecution?
Or a news clip of a Mardi Gras parade or people wearing Halloween costumes, or male rock bands who wear makeup or police and fire units who wear kilts as ceremonial dress.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve gone white water rafting down the New and Gauley Rivers - Upper and Lower branches of both.

West Virginia is gorgeous if you like the outdoors. Other than that, the state has major issues and is completely lacking in any sort of successful infrastructure - healthcare, education, economic development, etc.

Based on that weak argument. Does New York have the same problem since so many have fled to Florida?

Jack Lemmon - Some Like it Hot
Milton Berle
A whole bunch of clown shows and acts.
Ren Faire here has shows with men dressed (badly) as women and doing stupid skits (which are hilarious after a couple of meads, but thats how I got married so no comment)

What about women who dress up like men? Given the wide range of fashions...thats a real can of worms. The daughter might come down looking like a lumberjack, a Goth, Manic Pixie DreamGirl, or Sunday church lass depending on the day or hour.

Florida? Florida? Under authoritarian fascist "Don't Say Gay" DeSantist? Surely you jest.

"The Board of Education is just one of a number of state agencies being weaponized against the LGBTQ community by Governor DeSantis and his administration. Florida’s Medicaid agency (the Agency for Health Care Administration) recently created a rule ending Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care in the state. The Board of Medicine is currently undergoing a similar rulemaking process that could threaten the licenses of health care professionals for providing gender-affirming care to transgender youth. And in July, the governor weaponized the Department of Business and Professional Regulation against an LGBTQ-owned small business in Miami, threatening to strip the restaurant of its liquor license after they hosted a drag performance at their weekly Sunday Brunch."

Cheat River several times. Great fun.

This will be challenged in federal court and it will be tossed.

This bill is the result of out of control redneck morons in the state legislature of WV.

Those individuals need to be removed from office in disgrace.
