Hello.

Decided to start getting involved in politics, as this country is a mess, and figured a good place to start would be to start discussing political topics with people who are able to disagree with me politely.

My personal background: born and raised in Vienna, Austria by ex-pat parents. (UN) I received my High School diploma and International Baccalaureate from the International School of Geneva, Switzerland in 2002. From there, I went to Purdue University, where I spent four years studying Geology and Religious Studies. Didn't get a degree, unfortunately.

Since then, I've worked several odd jobs, and ended up joining the Navy as an Electronics Technician. Disclaimer: I do not speak for the US Navy or any command within the US Navy. Any views are my own, and should not be taken as official statements in any manner.

Politically, I tend towards the left on most issues, though there are a few issues (such as gun control), where I tend to the right.

My expectations for these forums are to further my understanding of certain issues, and hope that people will tell me *why* they disagree with me, so that I can follow their reasoning.

Welcome!

You may not always get an explanation as to why someone disagrees, but I'm sure they'll be happy to tell you why you're wrong.

I guess it's theoretically possible.

Welcome, RockSlice. There are some good discussions here. I hesitate to offer a caveat that the style of dialogue you encounter here, is not in any practical sense transferable to real life. That is to say that, the anonymity and dissociation of the internet will furnish you no skill set with any crossover. That aside, there is no scarcity of food for thought.
