New Single-Payer Bill Intensifies Newsom’s Political Peril

But
It's been fifteen years since Gov. Schwarzenegger first vetoed single-payer legislation in California, and about three years since the last major push to implement such a state-level system was shelved. Now does the prospect of a new HHS with California (and single-payer) sympathies and a governor suddenly on the ropes make it more or less likely to advance in California this time?

New Single-Payer Bill Intensifies Newsom’s Political Peril

California could be a good test case if the state really wants to do it. But with a White House that's now set on bolstering the ACA instead of shredding it, perhaps some of the urgency that briefly gave single-payer momentum in California in 2017 will be lost.

But... but Calif has the 5th largest economy in the world(LOL)

If just one of the 50 states had single payer, a lot of sick people would move there to take advantage of it.

That just it, No state can do it(Hint)

California's population is 39 million. Canada's population is 37 million and we've had a fully funded single-payer system since 1957. If it will work in Canada it would work in California.

That's BABY time

Did other states that tried single-payer see a surge in migration?

And how is that relevant? I think 64 years is long enough to demonstrate success. Germany has had universal coverage for 138 years. That long enough for you?

Under that logic, half of Mississippi should've already moved to Massachusetts or Minnesota. Differences in quality, cost, and accessibility of health care exist across the United States, and yet Americans are apparently quite immobile.

A similar (mistaken) point was made upthread that poor people would flock to California, ignoring the fact that California already embraced universal coverage for the poor over a decade ago when it became one of a handful of states to take up the ACA's option to expand Medicaid early.

Thus far no state has wanted to do it, which is not the same thing.

The main obstacle is and has always been the obstinance of dubiously motivated politicians acting in direct defiance of their constituencies, including Democrats like Anthony Rendon who spiked it immediately last time on shaky premises at best regarding funding, particularly when he's supposed to determine such things and yet he never even made an attempt to do so.

No, the main obstacle is raising taxes high enough to pay for it.

That's a saying that no one with half a brain believes today, which is why productive people are leaving that shithole state in droves.
Nice talking point. While true, CA is also the third highest state in terms of people moving in from other states. How's your snow shovel working?

I'd rather shovel snow than human feces.
I've never done that. If you don't think there is crap on the streets of Hartford you're just not shoveling the snow often enough. Spring's coming.

That's not really true. Canadians tend to stay healthy regardless. California's population has a lot less healthier lifestyles than canadians. Hell, you'll get diseased just walking the streets of San Fran

Average lifespan:
Canada: 81.59
California: 81.3

Californians look pretty healthy. Second highest lifespan in the US.

California is more diverse than canada. The average life span is only a simple average, it does not reflect the unequal health among different demographics. One could argue that universal healthcare would solve this, but remember, there's other factors involved, such as minority communities being run down and disease ridden, creating an overburden health system that would bankrupt the state.

We may find out. Meanwhile the increased taxation my cause those forced to pay it to seek alternative locations.

Such as places with reliable power grids? ;)

Correct.

It's amusing to watch opponents of affordable healthcare try to spin that into a reason that single-payer is somehow bad. 😁

Geeze you guys are getting more and more desperate in your quest to prove 'that won't work here' for a program that works in almost all other developed countries.

Your 'minority communities' and 'disease ridden' comments are the key phrases. You're afraid minorities will get healthcare.

And who is moving in?

Wtf does fertility rate have to do with this topic?

Simple, your not producing

You'll need more poor immigrants from shithole countries(Just like us)
