TAOS, N.M. (Reuters) - A New Mexico judge received death threats and Islamophobic abuse on Tuesday a day after she granted bail to five Muslims charged with child abuse and accused of training children at their compound to carry out attacks, court officials said.

Police raided the compound in Taos County on Aug. 3 following a tip-off that children held there were starving. They found 11 children in need of food and water, and three days later unearthed the body of a toddler.

That is a relief, I would hate to think people were upset by the condition of the children.

I sure as hell don't condone the threats, but I'm not surprised at them either. People have gotten death threats for far far less egregious things.

Trump probably does make things worse with his divisive rhetoric, but judges have been getting death threats since long before Trump started stirring the pot. People need to calm down and wait for the justice system to work.

While I certainly do NOT approve of death threats to a judge, the rulings in this case are extremely strange and appear to be treating serious crimes with less than serious bail.
 
I don't condone death threats to anyone, but I can understand people not liking her ruling...especially since she accuses the State of discrimination based on religion.

I usually don't agree with you, but when you're right you're right. Bail is denied routinely for crimes less severe. The threats are wrong but the judge made a mistake IMO.

The kids were starving, they found what looks to be a body of one of the kids in the compound.
i think they said some of the younger kids were walking around in dirty diapers etc ...

not to mention the mental and physical abuse that they suffered.

They should have been held without bail period.

The Judge has to follow the law and apply the law equally. You can't make up law as you go along.

What was his bail? Signatory bail?
