Newark mayor says he would oppose opening dispensaries in his city without expungement

A coalition of New Jersey mayors on Wednesday called for the expungement of marijuana-related offenses, as state lawmakers hammer out a deal to legalize the recreational use of the drug.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, a Democrat, said he wants state lawmakers to expunge the criminal records of anyone convicted of possessing or selling 50 grams or less of marijuana.
