I certainly would not mind knowing... whoever was involved should be identified. I cannot really envision a good or legitimate reason why we should not be informed.Why would they want to keep this secret? As is clear, it's not for fear of offending the Saudis so it must be protecting another entity:
H. Res. 428
RESOLUTION
Urging the president to release information regarding the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks upon the United States.
Whereas President George W. Bush classified 28 pages of the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 2001;
Whereas the contents of the redacted pages are necessary for a full public understanding of the events and circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001, attacks upon the United States;
Whereas the Executive Branch’s decision to maintain the classified status of these pages prevents the people of the United States from having access to information about the involvement of certain foreign governments in the terrorist attacks of September 2001; and
Whereas the people of the United States and the families of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks deserve full and public disclosure of the results of the Joint Inquiry: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Representatives that–
(1) the President should declassify the 28-page section of the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 2001; and
(2) the families of the victims and the people of the United States deserve answers about the events and circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2001, attacks upon the United States.

Its been 12 years... can you give a plausible scenario in which this material still needs to remain classified? Declassify and if there is nothing there, it will give us, perhaps, a little more faith in government... which is sorely lacking...Everyone is jumping to conclusions because of their vast knowledge and experience dealing with classified information. :roll:

You don't know what is classified and why.
Lol. Which is why he asked you to present a 'plausible scenario' for why it remains classified after twelve years.

Means and methods, mostly. Human sources that continue to work for the US, possibly.
Names and sources of intelligence can be redacted. But to deny 28 pages of information is ridiculous, and usually means an attempt to keep dirty laundry from being aired out in public, which any organization known for secrecy habitually does.
That is so true as to be obvious... yet certainly not very persuasive.You don't know what is classified and why.
We cannot just rely on government to alert us when it is critical that the public know.
Yes, I am sure they do... its just that we are the boss, they are the hired help and there should be some kind of "sell by date" after which we get to make sure our hired help are not screwing with us. At minimum we should have some form of ombudsmen to verify the truth of what they say... I often get that feeling that even those of us watching fairly closely are being played the fool.Means and methods, mostly. Human sources that continue to work for the US, possibly. Ya know, basically when you declassify something, you're essentially giving up the ability to get more intelligence via those sources. So like...ya know...people who's jobs it is to collect intelligence don't like giving up sources and methods just so some guys on a message board can feel a little bit better. Especially because typically those guys are just going to contend that there's some bigger secret out there anyway. In that case, it'd be all for naught anyway.
So yeah...people really like classified things to stay classified.

These things need a practical expiration date.
I agree, but also know we have been screwed with that approach in the past, its why we need someone independent, trustworthy, to look at what went on closely, then nod to us that its ok...or not okay.You have to when it comes to intelligence. That's the point of it. If every person in the US knew about all intelligence operations, that would mean most of the people on the planet would, which would defeat the purpose.

I have no need to specifically know, or let the whole world know... but I do want to know its all legit.
I agree. What happens, for instance, if the US found out plans that terrorists want to commit certain acts? The future who, what, when, where, why and how could jeopardize more successful drone attacks.You don't know what is classified and why.

You think the Federal government is independent from the Federal government? How do you figure?Like...the government you elect?
The first question is where the first nah comes into play... and I am talking an ombudsman elected/appointed by the people, not subject to government oversight or control.Like the government you elect, for example?
Nah.
