Underestimating your enemy and overestimating your own capabilities has been a major reason many battles and wars have been lost. The battle of Hattin in 1187 is a prime example of the mistakes to avoid when facing an enemy similar to the one we face today.

The Seljul Turks had defeated the Byzantine Empire, and the Holy Land was now under the control of the Mohammedans. Christian leaders were offended, and Pope Urban II called for a crusade to take back the Holy Land from the control of the Muslims.

There were several disorganized crusades and multiple raids, most used the opportunity to enrich themselves if the opportunity arose, despite moral purpose and intent.

A good read on history of the Middle East as related to today. Then again, Progressive tend to believe they are superior and know more than everyone else, so much so that they revise history to prove themselves right. Will we and are we repeating the mistakes of the past?

wait, what's your ****ing point?

You are asking him? I don't think he knows.

Except for those that have been in the war. Your quip, is more like coming from Yogi Berra.

"A word to the wise ain't necessary - it's the stupid ones that need the advice". Maybe you should heed this one. Or,

"Experience is not what happens to you; it's what you do with what happens to you".

Then there's this one.

"A man must be big enough to admit his mistakes, smart enough to profit from them, and strong enough to correct them".

Yes, we are making the same mistakes over and over again. However, it isn't a progressive mistake we are making but a mistake that both sides have made.

We should not be interfering in any way (save an all out invasion of another country like Iraq did to Kuwait) with the Middle East.

We have proven time and time again, we are not nation builders and our interference does nothing but make the matter worse. So called "allies" that we support in a couple of decades turn into our enemies.

We should be concentrating on weening ourselves off Middle East oil completely. This can be accomplished by drilling and using other sources of oil and then ween ourselves off Middle Eastern politics.
