NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll show Trump and Clinton in dead heat

If that happens, the election is thrown to the House of Representatives and each state represented gets one vote. It is anybody's guess how that might go.

Maybe Paul Ryan will get to be President after all. Unless the House of Representatives has to pick only from the ballot options.

No. I haven't read up on the actual law in awhile, but if my memory serves me well, the House must choose between the three highest vote getters. They can't bring in somebody else like Ryan they would like better.

The weird thing is that the Senate then chooses the VP between the two highest vote getters in the general election. Each Senator gets one vote so if they split 50-50, the existing Vice President (Joe Biden) would cast the deciding vote.

So. . .we could be in situation of having a Democratic President with a Republican or Libertarian Vice President or any number of other uncomfortable combinations.

Hahhaahahah ok. Presidency of the United States at stake, and one lady on CNN made one underhanded comment about racism, and the Clintons just gave up. Sure. That lets you handwave everything else I mentioned.

Dude, don't play ignorant. Racism was all the rage during that primary.

Absolutely. But the Democrats were so terrified of being labeled racists...they never vetted him or seriously campaigned against him. And if they did....whoa brother.

Racial tensions roil Democratic race - POLITICO

The race card turned into a ticket to the White House for Obama.

Remember when Obama even threw his beloved grandmother under the bus to emphasize how black he was and how terrible white people are? She was a "typical white person".

In the immortal words of Harry Reid, Obama fit the role perfectly, since he was a "light skinned" black person with "no Negro dialect". The far left was itching for a black man to put up for the job, knowing how many blacks would come out to vote and knowing how many Liberal white people would soil their pants and weep at doing something as historic as voting for a black man. Obama came along at the right time. David Axelrod plucked a blackish man out of obscurity knowing that 2008 was the time. Obama had almost no credentials other than his light skinned black coloring. And they marketed the bejeezus out of it.

Trump not having a decent lead should be troubling for his fans, as he has clinched his nomination, while the democratic contest is still ongoing.

True, but while those who don't like Trump will not vote or vote 3rd party, there are signs that many Sanders supports will vote Trump.

I think a lot of people have underestimated the animosity towards Hillary in the Sanders camp and the attraction Trump has in the blue collar Dem ranks.

Even if Sanders one day turns around and says everything he said about Hillary was not true, I don't think his followers will do the same, so many of them might vote for Trump.

Sure thing. Everyone really loved Hillary Clinton but didn't vote for her because they didn't want to be called racist. Clinton was sooooo popular.

What was it then? His countless legislative victories? Or his vast experience? His stated love of social democracy? Or his tendency to make excuses for Islam?

Face it, if Obama had been white, he'd have NEVER gotten elected.

I don't know if he'd have ever been elected, but he certainly wouldn't have been the candidate for 2008. That would have been Hillary.

The facts are that Obama used his race from the outset and people, especially on the left, are conditioned to recoil at the mere mention of their being thought of as racist. Nowen of that would have helped a White guy named Barry beat the most powerful political family in the country.

She was very popular among dem voters back in 2008. Take the black factor out of the equation back then and she'd have been the candidate.

You've backpedaled an awfully long way from "elected solely because of his race."

If "is black" was by itself enough to be elected, a black man would have been elected president ages ago.

Keep telling yourself that. And keep telling the GOP that. The more you guys try to play the race card, the more the GOP will lose.

Bull****. White guilt hadn't taken hold to the level of 2008 before then. His blackness was he ONLY reason for success. He's the affirmative action president. Again, had he been exactly what he was...except WHITE. You'd have forgotten him in 5 minutes.

Affirmative action president. Yep. Keep on spitting out the talking points fed by all your right-wing bloggers. Don't try to analyze why you lost in 2008 and 2012. And if you lose in 2016, continue to not analyze. Just say it's because Hillary is a woman, that's why she got elected.

I much prefer my GOP to be inept and unchanging.

It has to be terribly frustrating for her. She did her duty from early in their marriage, their time in Arkansas, and their time in Washington DC. She played the role of the supportive wife, ignored Bill's many infidelities and indiscretions, did her part to discredit the 'bimbo eruptions' and defended his policies. Her role in every case, including the Rose Law Firm, was awarded her because she was married to Bill Clinton. Ditto her election as the carpet bagger senator of New York. She put in the time, paid, her dues, and it was her turn. She was the inevitable nominee and first female President of the United States . . .UNTIL . . .Barack Obama came along and was the more attractive candidate. The super delegates jumped ship from her to him and took it all away from her.

So she stuck it out as a mediocre, even less than that, Secretary of State until they got through the 2012 election and she could start campaigning again. (I imagine she got that appointment to make sure she didn't make any trouble for him.) And now it is REALLY her turn. She has really paid her dues big time now and has earned the honor. She will be the nominee and the first female President of the United States. . . UNTIL. . .

Bernie Sanders decided to challenge that. And challenge her he has surpassing anybody's wildest dreams.

And now only the super delegates are keeping her in it. What happens if Sanders keeps winning elections and it is super close come convention time? What if the polls are still showing that he is the more appealing candidate and has the best chance to beat Trump? Will the super delegates jump ship again?

It is a fascinating thing to watch.

You gotta love the notion that the previous white presidents all were elected on merit, while the only "non white president" was elected entirely due to his skin color. And conservatives wonder why very few minorities support them.

The funny thing is, even if one were to buy into the notion that Obama was elected and re-elected entirely due to his skin color, and nothing more, he still managed to be a superior president to the last clown the Republicans elected as president. Now that is amusing, isn't it?

Not as fascinating to watch as a big government liberal from New York convincing the conservative base to vote for him all entirely due to race baiting rhetoric. Trump was the least conservative person running from the "Republican side" and he will get the nomination. Nothing is more fascinating than that, and shows that the so called "conservative base" are nothing but a bunch of frauds who will vote straight party ticket regardless of who the candidate is.

And I have to care what somebody says who has nothing to offer but insults for a very large group of people because. . . .? Oh right. I don't. But do have a pleasant afternoon.

Never said you have to care, but facts are facts. The fact that the Republican base's counter to the supposedly "socialist anti-American Obama" is a big government liberal from New York with absolutely no conservative credentials OR background at all, and at the same time was the least conservative person running from the GOP side is amusing. Not entirely unprecedented though. Romney was no conservative either (though he had to pretend to be to clinch the nomination).

My opinion? self proclaimed "conservatives" don't care about spending or big government or debt as long as it's coming from their side. But hey, i'm just one man with his opinions.

SO MUCH FOR THE POLLS....

One Chart Shows Why All the Trump Leading Clinton Polls Are Completely Worthless

“…………What the media isn't saying about their national polls showing Donald Trump leading Hillary Clinton is that they are worthless. A look at the past two election presidential cycles shows that the polls aren't measuring what the media thinks they are measuring…………
“……….A problem with media organizations doing and reporting on their own polling is that it creates a conflict between making news and reporting the news. Networks do polls because they provide news content that they can shape into a dramatic storyline…………..

The current national polls mean nothing. Once Clinton is the official Democratic nominee, the state of the race will begin to take shape. However, the polling that really matters won’t be happening until the fall in the battleground states that will determine who the next president will be……………For now, do yourself a favor and ignore the head to head matchup national polls because they matter not………It’s all media hype…………………..Gotta have that drama to keep yall all interested………

Clinton has been the presumptive nominee for eight years.

That is only if you buy into the premise that he has been superior at anything.

What a pleasure it is to read a post from someone who is well informed and analytical. It does occur on DP but not as often as it once did.

I'm no fan of Hillary, but you're post provided me with the opportunity to consider a few things. Thank you for that.

In my opinion Hillary has been mediocre from day one and remains nothing more than middling even today. I cannot decide whether Hillary's personal strategy has alway been "it's my turn" (which doesn't translate all that well among people who aren't Hillary) or Hillary is in reality fairly sub par when all things are considered. I suspect it is both.

Depending on the source either 48% or 49% of the people who support Hillary do not like her and are not voting for her but rather against Trump. That is not difficult for me to believe. Hillary isn't likable for a number of good reasons.

And yes, Bernie did steal her thunder. And yes, at this point Bernie is the stronger of the two against Trump.

It continues to chap my butt when I hear establishment Democrat partisans now braying in unison, "If we lose the election to Trump it's Bernie's fault" or "Bernie is splitting the party."

I don't pretend to know when the notion first came to Hillary to run for President, but I am pretty much 100% certain the New York Senate seat was arranged for her in order to give her some sort of credential to make her look more qualified for a Presidential run. She had nothing, zilch, zero qualifications on her resume up until then. It was obvious she had no interest in serving as Senator as she started her Presidential campaign at the end of her first term as Senator even though she continued to serve until Obama drafted her as Secretary of State. I have to believe some kind of deal was made regarding that as she had zero qualifications for that position too.

But somebody up there mentioned that the polls at this time are pretty worthless, and I think that person is probably right. It won't be until after the conventions and the people are beginning to take notice of the Hillary vs Trump matchup that the polls will get more significant and even then I imagine there will be wide margins of error.

And yeah, they'll look for some reason if Hillary is the nominee and falters. And Bernie is as good a scapegoat as any to blame.

If the election ends up in a tie maybe we could just ignore the constitution and let them split the White House,eh?

It's a large house.

Realistically,I believe that Clinton will win this election.

Plenty of people will vote against Trump for the same reasons that others will vote for him.
