Newsbusters:
By Scott Whitlock

ABC on Monday allowed a scant 22 seconds to the latest revelation in the scandal engulfing the Internal Revenue Service. NBC and CBS have, thus far, ignored the newest detail. The Associated Press on Sunday night reported that an IRS “supervisor in Washington says she was personally involved in scrutinizing some of the earliest applications from tea party groups seeking tax-exempt status.”

Josh Elliott on Monday’s Good Morning America explained, “That testimony contradicts IRS claims that agents in the Cincinnati field office were solely responsible for targeting those groups.” Yet, a brief mention was all the morning show host could allow. In contrast, GMA devoted two minutes and 15 seconds to the relationship stars between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. ABC also didn’t note that the IRS employee in question, Holly Paz, donated $4000 to Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.

So here we have Shulman, Miller and Lerner telling us that its the fault of those low level Cincinnati IRS employees when Ms. Holly Paz has been allowing 501(c)(4) applications languish on her desk for over a year. Turns out her immediate boss was Ms. Lerner herself.

NewsBusters is confused, Holly Paz was scrutinizing applications and there is nothing wrong with that, that was her job. She wasn't targeting applications , which would be wrong.

The IRS scandal is about targeting conservatives, not scrutinizing 501(c)(4)s

IRS to pro-life group: Send letter pledging not to protest Planned Parenthood to get your tax exemption

posted at 10:41 am on May 16, 2013 by Ed Morrissey

The Inspector General of the Treasury reported this week that the IRS began applying extra scrutiny and conducting harassment of Obama administration opponents as early as March 2010. However, for at least two pro-life groups, that scrutiny appears to have started a year earlier. Joel Gehrke reports that one group was told its tax-exempt application depended not on promising to stay out of electoral politics, but on pledging not to protest Planned Parenthood — a prominent supporter of Barack Obama:

IRS officials refused to grant tax exempt status two pro-life organizations because of their position on the abortion issue, according to a non-profit law firm, which said that one group was pressured not to protest a pro-choice organization that endorsed President Obama during the last election.

The HuffPo says:

Her assertion contradicts initial claims by the agency that a small group of agents working in an office in Cincinnati were solely responsible for mishandling the applications.

Holly Paz, IRS Supervisor, Admits Scrutinizing Applications From Tea Party Groups

The WaPo says:

IRS officials in Washington first learned of the Cincinnati office’s decision to single out tea party groups in February 2010, right from the start of the program.

What did Holly Paz tell IRS investigators?
