NBA shameful statement on Hong Kong Protests

I understand quite well howq the country works. That's fully irrelevant here. Fact is the CCP controls the country completely.

China is the exact opposite of communist. I'd call them predatory capitalist.

But, if you want, you can call them whatever you wish. Are you then conceding that Communism has been a resounding success?

No. But the CCP has transitioned the Chinese economy while retaining absolute control. Tyranny remains intact.

Tyranny, authoritarianism, etc. is not necessarily communism. You do know that; right?

China is ruled by the Chinese Communist Party as a one-party state. It is therefore by definition a communist country regardless of its social or economic system.

That's a ridiculous statement. Are you next going to argue North Korea is a Republic because it calls itself one?

The only thing that's ridiculous here is your denial of the plain facts. The Chinese Communist Party rules China as a one-party state. China is therefore a communist country. QED
There is nothing in the definition of the word "republic" that precludes its use by North Korea.

So, in your opinion, China is communist because they say they are, and North Korea is a Republic because they say they are. Too bad you're wrong.

No. That's not what I said. China is communist because it is ruled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Ideology has nothing to do with it.
North Korea can call itself a republic because there's nothing in the definition of "republic" that prevents it.

China, being the most successful country today in the battle of market domination and economic might, makes it far more capitalist even than the US, which is a dwindling superpower riddled with corruption and stagnation due to its low level of education and lack of upward mobility. China is no more communist than is South Korea.

The fact that China is now economically capitalist in no way contradicts its status as a communist country.

[h=3]China anniversary: How the Communist Party runs the country ...[/h]

Sep 30, 2019 - The Communist Party of China is in complete control of the country, from government to police to military. With some 90 million members, it is organised like a pyramid, with the politburo and eventually President Xi Jinping at the top. While there is a parliament, the National ...

What was that again? Oh, yeah.

"The fact that China is now economically capitalist in no way contradicts its status as a communist country."

As you wish. You only embarrass yourself.

Right because countries which are economically capitalist are always considered to be Communist.

Countries which are governed as one party states by the Communist Party are communist, yes.

Names mean nothing. Democratic Republic of Congo should give you a clue on that one.

I've been there. It's irrelevant to this discussion.

What's irrelevant is what countries call themselves in their euphemistic titles; kind of like "Land of the Free" when there are over two million people in prison, most of them for non-violent drug offenses.

China is not communist. It hasn't been since the 90's.

China get angered by EVERYTHING.

It's actually quite funny watching China getting angry.

China and Sweden in diplomatic row after family 'brutally' evicted from hotel lobby | The Independent

This is my favorite.

"China and Sweden in diplomatic row after family 'brutally' evicted from hotel lobby"

"a family identified as the Zengs arrived at the Generator Hostel in Stockholm one night before they had booked to stay."

"The Zengs reportedly asked to wait out the night on the sofas in the hostel’s lobby, but were told they couldn’t and were asked to leave. When they objected, hostel staff called the police – at which point videos of the incident show Zeng being carried out by two officers, screaming in English: “This is killing, this is killing.”"

"“What the police had done severely endangered the life and violated the basic human rights of the Chinese citizens.”"

The last part is the funniest. The Chinese govt demanding that Chinese citizens have basic human rights. And those basic human rights are, well, the right to squat.

NZ flight to China turned back, possibly for listing Taiwan as country - Business Insider
Air New Zealand flight to Shanghai turned back over Taiwan reference

Then they complained about a flight listing "Taiwan" in the paper work.

The fact that in Hong Kong there is freedom of speech, and yet someone who says something about a place with freedom of speech suddenly gets the Beijing govt attacking it, and the internet shrills they pay (about 2 million of them at the last count) saying they're not going to watch the NBA any more.... like they're going to watch the Chinese Basketball league or something instead.....

This is a policy of the Chinese govt. Recently they've attack the US for interfering in internal politics by putting sanctions against businesses involved in Xinjiang (while dealing with the Chinese govt in trade negotiations at the same time, as if the Chinese govt isn't the one implementing the policy there).

It's like watching a tragedy/comedy.

China is a one-party state ruled by the CCP. It's a Communist country. Almost all the people in prison in the US deserve to be there, and we on the outside are better off because they're on the inside.

Yes we know, they are communist even though they are "economically capitalist."

Logic like that explains a lot.
