This is great to see and well deserved.....Its a great honer to have and aircraft carrier named after you.......

Lets see now we have Aircraft Carriers named after Reagan, George HW Bush and Gerald Ford........

The question that begs to be asked is why was Clinton skipped? I think we all know the answer for that......

WASHINGTON - The Navy will name its next aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford in honor of the president who was buried Wednesday in his home town of Grand Rapids, Mich., officials said.

I would be proud to serve on any ship named after our former president, Jerry Ford..... (just as long as it was West Pac;) )

May he rest in peace. An exemplary man who reminded us all what a president is supposed to be.

It's a shame we really haven't seen one like that since.

I bet he'd roll over in his grave if Mr. Bush arranged for a "Mission Accomplished" banner to be displayed on his namesake ship's bulkhead. He had some pretty strong opinions about all that it has been reported.

That Mission Accomplished sign was put up by ships company on the carrier signifying their deployment was complete.............

White House spokesman Scott McClellan told CNN that in preparing for the speech, Navy officials on the carrier told Bush aides they wanted a "Mission Accomplished" banner, and the White House agreed to create it.

"We took care of the production of it," McClellan said. "We have people to do those things. But the Navy actually put it up."

"The banner was a Navy idea, the ship's idea," Chun said.

"The banner signified the successful completion of the ship's deployment," he said, noting the Abraham Lincoln was deployed 290 days, longer than any other nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in history.

Regardless of how the left tried to spin it (unseuccessfully I might add. Voters didn't fall for it), the banner was not trying to suggest that our war on terror was accomplished.

The banner (produced by the White House) President Bush so fondly stood under was indeed conveniently trying to suggest something... :cool:

The very link that kidrocks provided (from CNN, not the administration) makes the mincemeat for me. It clearly says what the banner stood for. All you two have to do is read it.

Again....I love how you think that this post proves your point. I don't think you understand what "Mincemeat" is.

So....what about the part from Scott McClellan that says that the banner was produced by the whitehouse?

You can accept an after the fact statement from the Navy that it had nothing to do with the President declaring major military action complete and the first Victory on the "war on terror"......I find it rather ironic that the whitehouse gives contradictory statements prior to this.....and then when it turns into yet another major blunder for Bush....this Navy spokesman comes out with this explanation....

But that aside.....even if you accept the statement as truthful.....The speech by Bush was clearly intended for political purposes.....and you would have to find it highly coincidental that the Administration spin doctors didn't decide to take complete advantage of using the banner.....even if you accept the explanation that it wasn't its intended purpose....

It just so happened to be a really stupid political move.....and it backfired....thats all.....thats politics.

Wasn't Ford President BEFORE Carter and didn't he have to die first? Didn't Reagan have to die first? Didn't Bush 41 have to have his son cut the line for him?

It backfired for those who wish to believe it backfired. Those who know better don't fall for the rhetorical spin. I knew what the banner was for - even before the left tried to turn it into a big election year flap.
