"NATO RAF Typhoons Scrambled to Intercept Two "Russian" Tu-142 “Bear F” Aircraft Close to UK Airspace

Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets were scrambled this morning to intercept two Russian Tu-142 “Bear F” anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol aircraft operating over the North Sea near UK airspace.

The Typhoons, which were launched from RAF Lossiemouth shortly before 8am, were joined by an RAF Voyager tanker aircraft from RAF Brize Norton, which provided air-to-air refueling (AAR) support for the Typhoons.

The Typhoons shadowed the two Russian Bears and closely monitored their movements. An RAF statement said that the shadowing is “to deter this provocative activity and mitigate the risks associated with Russian military aircraft flying in this busy international airspace

Other NATO allies also launched their Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) assets to assist in monitoring the Russian aircraft. Controllers from RAF Scampton coordinated the mission, liaising with NATO partners at the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) in Uedem, Germany. ”.

This has been going on daily since the end of WW2 over the skies of Europe, Canada. Daily in the South Pacific Chinese naval ships as well as aircraft play the same game with the US and allied navies on the sea and various air forces in the skies. including with Russia. Your point?

The US today uses satellites as well as stealth craft to do it. Everyone hacks into everyone else's satellite systems and communications systems. Its all one expensive joke. Russia, China, whoever, has already penetrated your society and watches every move you make no different than your own government or private businesses. Smile you are being watched. Every move you make I see you and yer boys. Poof. I could remove you like an annoying mosquito if I want to. Ask the Iranians.

I fail to see why they act like this is something new still it has been a constant occurance between cold war nations since ww2. Also the bear bomber is a good bomber but it is not exactly hiding from no one, they have a fairly large radar signature and their props actually break the sound barrier, they are so loud they can be heard coming, and their crew even with hearing protection has been known to suffer massive hearing loss.

I had a friend I met in Canada who was a retired British RAF pilot. He flew Phantoms to intercept them back in the cold war. He said the Ruskies would show them pictures of porno magazines from their windows. They probe the response time yes but why bother. All it takes is one mad man today with a home made device to devestate. I hear they would most likely drop a bomb high up to disrupt the microwave transmissions to create havoc.

Canada is (doing great job) suppressing Moscow´s imperial, revanchist politic around the world , each free world country ´d learn from Canada to do it

It's possible China and the Chinese are the only country and people in the world who dislike Canada and Canadians and say only bad things about 'em. Maybe the Russians too because of the contest to secure the Arctic geostrategically and for natural resources and environment, and for still more reasons stated above.

After Canada arrested Weng Minzhou the CFO of Huawei owned by her brother Chinese are hopping mad at Canada and arrested two Canadians in China to throw espionage charges at 'em. The Weng case is still in Federal court in Vancouver as Weng fights Washington's extradition request to Canada after she was arrested unceremoniously by RCMP on a plane and hauled off.

Huawei is of course literally signed up with Beijing to provide any important information Huawei might get from its operations and that would be of interest to the Beijing DictatorTyrants.

Until now and the Chinese and in my 20+ years abroad off and on here and there in East Asia and SE Asia I've never heard a negative word about Canada. Never said one either. Of course the Canadian Navy is doing freedom of navigation ops in the Taiwan Strait these dayze too so that would also get the Chinese goat.

As to the Arctic tussles, my many Canadian friends advise me Canada is only protecting Santa Claus who lives in Canada from the Russian bear. Buy 'em a beer I do.

Again with the "Muscovite horde" nonsense... Since Peter the Great RUSSIA looked to the west and tried to emulate the western conditions. Then again everyone was despotic at that time.

The name of the country is RUSSIA.

You need to recognize and understand that what is Chinese is right and the world is wrong.

What the Chinese created 5000 years ago remains as right today as it was Chinese right then and for all the time in between then and now. Democracy and Western parliamentary systems of government are wrong wrong wrong -- because they are not Chinese conceived, created, developed and they are recent, passing phenomenon.

Chinese hate freedom and hate democracy because it is not Chinese. Beijing is destroying democracy in Hong Kong because it is wrong. Democracy is wrong in Hong Kong because it is not Chinese.

The current CCP Chinese Dynasty in Beijing has vowed and sworn on their Han ancestors to destroy democracy on Taiwan where vile minded Chinese have gone astray to the Western parliamentary way against the Han way extant since time immemorial.

You know the Russians better than I do and I know the Chinese better than you do. I agree with you on Russia. You might consider reciprocating concerning my experiences and insights in China and into the Chinese. What makes the Chinese worse than the Russians is that while the Rus barbarians go back only a thousand years or so, the Han Chinese have been naturally etched in stone for 5000 years. They will never change by their own ways or means which are fixed, ancient, primitive, barbarian. Set in stone.

While I appreciate the complement from someone who shares a border in close proximity this nation as well let's be fair. Without the US Armed Forces neither of our nations would be free of invasion from that sob Putin. I really believe that. Put aside Trump who I do not like. I try separate the US Armed Forces from its politicians. Their presence is the no.1 detterent to Russia's expansionism. Yah we have a small well trained unit in Ukraine and we have some other small unit in one of the Balkan states who are doing a hell of a job with the little they have but let us face it, our governments in Canada since WW2 have stripped clean and underfunded our military relying completely on the US umbrella. We like many countries criticize US foreign policy but rely on them to shoulder most of NATO and the world burden in counter-balancing the Chinese and Russia and world terrorism and yet we act smug and superior about our non military approach to things. Its easy to be like us when you can rely on the Yanks next door and their citizens paying the taxes for the military umbrella we benefit from.

That said I appreciate Sweden and Finland and Scandinavian nations have their own issues. While we are on the topic Canada should have entered into a contact with Sweden. Your fighter craft was exactly a fit for Canada and we chose instead to join that stealth fighter network and the F18 is a disaster while the Gryphon suited our needs perfectly and would have made us less dependent on the US and given us left over savings to put in our non existent navy. Don't be too quick to complement us. Our current PM got into bed with Lavalin a company that propped corrupt regimes worldwide including Libya where we built a state of the art prison for that wonderful man Moe Ghaddafi. Our current PM never lived outside his privileged elitist millionaire socialist bubble and openly praised China's government.

I appreciate Sweden's non alignment history and your efforts with refugees. We in Canada read with interest how refugees turned down places to live in more rural areas we in Canada think are luxury villas. You guys have great villas and cabins. You guys and the Norweigans. I have been to Sweden. Of course I like the North. I hate Saabs but love volvos although today they are a bitch to fix. I had a station wagon volvo for years Best car I had in Canada for snow. Way ahead of itself. The Saab though shit you looked at it and it broke down. Ikea. Hah. They deliberately make instructions no one can understand. Its your revenge on Canada for making fun of your hockey players. Ok some are great I admit it ok?

Where did I state I approve of Putin's power grabs?

You do much accusing. But no proving your accusations.

The Chinese don't hate freedom and democracy. Chinese politicians work in a totalitarian system (though not perhaps as strict in the past). Basically China is still politically immature and the concept of a loyal opposition has yet to resonate i the collective psyche
They fear their political opponents
For personal security reasons they need to hang on to power

I would not have thought it possible until now but something similar is happening in the USA with an almost despotic and paranoid leader deperately tying to cling on to power and trying to jail political opponents.

5000 years of zero democracy is not a political immaturity.

Chinese are and have a fully developed and advanced -- sophisticated -- dictatorship that the Chinese consider as the one and only right way because it is Chinese. All freedom is one thing and one thing only and completely, ie, anarchy. And when Chinese see the USA beacon of democracy moving in their direction they see only a confirmation of the superiority of the Chinese and Han in racial terms.

Chinese think of the USA of 1776-89 as the typical Chinese dynasty, ie, a lifespan of 250 or so years then out, done, finished as the democracy disintegrates into anarchy and then, inexorably, authoritarian dictatorship. You miss this for many reasons, the one in your post having its focus on the Chinese elites rather than on the people themselves who know they need to be led, directed, commanded.

Indeed, in the single party state China has always been and continues to be, a loyal opposition exists and it resides in intraparty factions, the PRC Dynasty factions being the princeling offspring of the original Party founders/leaders vs those not born to privilege. That is Xi Jinping whose father was a favored general with Mao vs the likes of former leader Hu Jintao who with his disadvantaged brethren scratched their way to the top. Deng Xiaoping's dictum was to alternate the two factions having power which is how it's been up to the present.

The princelings are the ideologues while the outsiders who are guaranteed their turn in power are the technocrats and managers to whom education is central to their credentials and credibility as made men. The burden of the outsiders is to make themselves so they can become the made men to sit at the top echelons -- inside the Party. Xi is the princeling party hack Mao ideologue while the Prime Minister Li Kejiang who chairs the government cabinet is a lawyer fluent in English. Whereas Xi can barely say hello in English, Li is a consummate technocrat manager.

It was the rising Li as the governor of Lioning province in 2007 who in perfect English advised the US ambassador Chinese GDP data was "man made," thus authoritatively alerting the West for the first time to the bogus nature of CCP booming economic data. Xi is incapable of any such sophistication, openness and frankness as he plows ahead with his Mao tunnel vision obsessed to become a bigger figure than Mao himself.

Yes it is

People have been living in England since the end of the last Ice Age - about 80,000 years ago

However democracy - real democracy - is only about 100 years old

China has to mature politically and perhaps in 100 years, it will attain the kind of democracy we see in the West today

Chinese are and have a fully developed and advanced -- sophisticated -- dictatorship that the Chinese consider as the one and only right way because it is Chinese...

So it differs from the rule of Henry VIII of England or the USSR in say under Stalin, in what way ?

When you say "Chinese" which Chinese ? - certainly not the demonstrators in Hong Kong
You mean just the leadership of the CCP

That is not a loyal opposition
A loyal opposition is a SEPARATE political entity - a different political party
Politically immature countries jail opposition leaders because they cannot understand that they're loyal to the country, just not the political group administering the country. Political immature countries cannot understand this and think of them as "traitors" (it has to be said that Donald Trump and his followers are politically immature)

The Chinese and the English are radically different peoples, societies, cultures, civilizations.

And since you're being obtuse, I will say when I refer in this dialogue of sorts to English people I refer at a minimum to people in England, just as when I refer to the Chinese I refer to the Chinese of the mainland. That you miss this indicates you are not quite centered or grounded; likely disoriented.

The Chinese will not change themselves, not ever. If the Chinese gain democracy it will not be initiated, developed or accomplished domestically. It will need to be introduced by external means, factors, impositions.

Your lurch to a possibly democratic China 100 years prospectively -- and not much before then -- is a powerful statement that your beliefs and otherwise noble aspirations for a democratic China and Chinese are vacuous. If not specious. It is a hail mary forward pass while blindfolded which makes it really feeble.

Not really

China is just about 100 years behind England in political maturity.

Then I think you're being obtuse...mindless slander is easy isn't it ?

So you admit that the Chinese on Hong Kong island are different and overcame "5,000 years of being radically different peoples, societies, cultures, civilizations" somehow ?

In what, about 150 years ?

So they'd need Britain to rule over them for 150 years ?
Don't be silly

No, it is a qualified statement that assumes China will attain the rate of political maturity that countries like Britain achieved.

When you finish your thesis thingy let me know plse thx.

I'd offer just one thought about your timeline though, which is to maybe make it 200 years before your China gets your democracy instead of 100 years.

Because my experience with the Chinese masses in China is that their bulbs are dim. And that all foreigners and things not Chinese are both wrong and evil. Fattening besides when Americans get involved, as we are of course.

Xi Jinpingpong just recently revived the Tianxia of the bygone Middle Kingdom that says all things under Heaven owe allegiance to China. In the modern world this means of course democracies submitting to China's 5000 year authoritarian rule.

So the timeline for you to summit is 2049, the 100th year anniversary of the CCP-PRC. There's an excellent book about it by the old China hand Michael Pillsbury, The Hundred Years Marathon which, given your mindset, you likely can relate to even if you are above learning from it.
