So much for the Left Mantra about Trump "hurting NATO".

Bu-bu-but KAMALA HARRIS just said that the US "has never been this low standing in the world".

I guess that means that PISSING OFF OUR ENEMIES , and SHOWING OUR ALLIES HOW to STRENGTHEN THEMSELVES is a "bad thing"....

Once again, STRONG LEADERSHIP on the Foreign Stage > Whiny-Assed, Feckless Weakness...ala. the American left...and if you have to make some people UPSET to ACCOMPLISH THE GOALS, such as a STRONGER NATO...so be it.

Bu-bu- BUT PUTIN!!!!!

NATO head: Trump's tough talk has added $100B to alliance, helped deter Russia

North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," said President Trump's tough talk has ultimately strengthened the 70-year-old alliance by leading member nations to contribute tens of billions of additional dollars to ensure their own security.
Stoltenberg's comments were a direct repudiation of critics who have accused Trump of undermining NATO by repeatedly pushing allies to meet their defense spending obligations -- and Trump himself referred to Stoltenberg's interview minutes later on Twitter as a rejection of a narrative pushed by "Dems & fake news."

"President Trump has been very clear," Stoltenberg told fill-in host John Roberts. "He is committed to NATO. He stated that clearly just a few days ago and also at the NATO summit in July. But at the same time, he has clearly stated that NATO allies need to invest more. And therefore at the summit in July last year, we agreed to do more to step up -- and now we see the results."

Anybody that does not expect the head of NATO to slobber all over the American President whether it is Mickey Mouse or Donald Trump is living some fantasy.

A good argument can be made that the crazier the President the greater the slobbering.

Sounds great. In no time at all the EU and NATO should be self-sufficient and not need the USA at all. We can come home and save all that money and reduce tensions in the EU. Almost progress, eh?

Of course. The additional $100 billion, the POTUS building the NATO missile defense shield in Putin's Backyard (Poland), and selling weapons to Ukraine, ALL OF WHICH former Pres. Ankle Grabber More Flexible for Vlad FAILED TO DO...are all insignificant.

ANYTHING to deny Trump CREDIT for what OBAMA FAILED TO DO...again.

So let me get this straight....

Giving NATO another 100B dollars is making them pay thier fair share now? Interesting premise.

How about we look at it for what it actually is.....Trump caving on ANOTHER campaign sound bite he moronically made.

Don't get me wrong...I'm perfectly on board with us making sure NATO stays a force in Europe so that Putin doesn't just make our eastern European friends his bitch again.

The outcome of this is being twisted into a victory when really it's a foreign policy disaster.

The U.S. committed, by treaty, to support NATO financially. It doesn't matter if the right wing thinks NATO ought to have non-U.S. funding or not. WE COMMITTED TO IT, not just in politics du jour but through actual treaty. Our NATO allies will definitely pay their own way now, possibly shifting the balance of power unfavourably away from us, all because suddenly the U.S. can't be relied upon for defense if Russia or another major actor goes on the offense again.

Do you understand what this means? That our word is worth nothing now. That is way worse than having to fork over some of our GDP to NATO. It means we can't be trusted to live up to our obligations.

I actually support the U.S. babying Europe less. They've been reliant on us for far too long which has allowed their cultures to progress while we remain a war-like nation. However, you don't just abandon the terms, you renegotiate them and give the system time to adapt. Trump basically pulled out the rug, just like he did with the Iran negotiations.

Total. Effing. Disaster.

Don't twist it to look like some genius foreign policy move when really it was yet another narcissistic, impulsive, reactionary response by a hot head who's out of his depth.

Taking the money we spend on foreign aid to NATO countries and then them turning around and putting it back into NATO doesn't really equate to them paying for the added money, now does it.

It would be like you loaning me 20 bucks, then I take you out to lunch and spend that same 20 bucks.

Until we do what Trump said he was going to and actually make the rest of NATO pay thier share, its nothing more than a shell game.

Again, for the record, I'm perfectly on board with us just doing what we need to to make sure the world is safer. Just don't try to make this out to be something its not.

We haven't occupied the western nations.

This has been explained to you time and again.

Why lie at this point?

It is still an occupation, to a far extent. Just with Wilson's national self-determination in there somewhere. Moscow never had such pretenses, they just rolled in the tanks.

"You had a European civil war that began in 1914. There was a long armistice in that war. Finally comes to an end in 1945. In the process of coming to the end, what happens is that sweeping into Europe from the outside are the Russians and the Americans. And they meet at Torgau on the Elbe River in May of 1945. With the result that no European nation wins the European Civil War. The winners in the European Civil War are in fact outsiders, the Russians and the Americans. Most of all the Americans."

Ummm

No.

Words mean things.

Troops stationed in a base in defense of the host nation =/= Occupation of the host nation.

Troops stationed in a base in defense of the host nation =/= Occupation of the host nation.

Just because a foreign power claims to be protecting you from an evil neighbour, doesn't make it true.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPROP!
OPROP! (Opraab! in correct 1940-Danish; proclamation) was a German leaflet dropped over several Danish cities at the German invasion of Denmark on April 9, 1940. The leaflets were signed by the head of Operation Weserübung Süd, General Leonhard Kaupisch. The text, written in broken but understandable Danish mixed with Norwegian, justified the German invasion as fraternally protecting Danish and Norwegian neutrality against British aggression, denounced Winston Churchill as a warmonger, and exhorted the Danish populace not to resist the German presence while an arrangement with the Danish government was being negotiated.

General Kaupisch was quickly dubbed 'Cow Piss' by the street urchins back in 1940. Everyone knew it was BS.

In that respect, Americans were always closer than the Russians to actually protecting people from the other lunatic.

No, it isn't.

Presence =/= Occupation

Anyone understanding the concept knows that.

We no longer "occupy" Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Guam, etc. We do have military in country with agreements with the host country.

And we can be asked to leave a la Philippines.... They asked that we leave and we abandoned some of the largest military bases in the area.

Another case of DaveFagan not knowing.....

Oh, was that was I was saying?

The Russians also claimed to be protecting the Hungarians, the Poles, the Czechoslovakians, etc., etc., from the evil of capitalism. Who actually did? Or who came closest to be beyond securing their own interests?
