National Rifle Association files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

so what's next? The NRB?

You don't like people advocating for your rights?

The NRA advocates for their own financial gain, lobbying to have taking and passing NRA training courses included as a prerequisite for the right to carrying a handgun having been converted to a state issued privilege by permit only.

Texas law requires the NRA instructor certification to become a Texas LTC instructor.

This NRA certification is accepted by the Texas Department of Public safety as meeting the prerequisite requirement to become a Texas license to carry instructor. It’s all you will need to get into the DPS Texas license to carry instructor course. Texas law specifically list the NRA instructor certification as the gold standard in Texas.

5 million members in a country with a population of 320 million does not equal clout.
That’s not a big enough chit for any card game in the US.

It’s not the number of members which gets one “clout” when it comes to getting legislative “attention” - it’s the amount of campaign cash you can raise and use to effectively lobby.

5 million of us and we aren't going away.

Getting out of NY is a move that should have happened a long time ago. NY state has abused their power not just with the NRA, but anyone they don't agree with philosophically.

As it has been, the NRA is the oldest civil rights group in our history.
La Pierre made suckers out of all the donors, wasting their money on private jets, lavish hotels, etc. Being in TX won't mean a damned thing if it is still run by corrupt sleazebags.

They like giving their money away, Trump has milked them for hundreds of millions more...

An organization that donates millions to the Republican party + their politicians, files for bankruptcy ?

I was referencing the quotes that I was responding to. How about you look there.

It remains to be seen if the donors feel suckered by him.

Good riddance, hopefully, the NRA dies a painful death.
Sick wish. They will be just fine once they get out of nasty New York and away from the AG who wants to destroy the NRA!

We need to collectively as a nation destroy the NRA. They have been transformed into a criminal operation led by zealots.

Correct! Lets add that members paid membership dues! So it's 5 million + members who are very invested in the NRA, 2nd amendment issues and politics!
The NRA will be just fine and will be welcomed by Texas.

Just a plain nutty post not based on reality......

Stiffing your creditors is pure Trumpian business practise, long established in the USA. How did they run out of money to launder?

How many minority members are in this supposed civil rights group?

When will the NRA "need" another private jet I wonder ?

I hope they can buy old wayne another mansion!

That would be beautiful to see.

Hopefully, win a sane president and majority of congress and Senate pro-gun safety and anti-gun violence we could put an end to the NRA for GOOD.

Definitely reads like someone abusing their position due to their political ideology.

Isn't that what the mob bosses claimed- Rudy is pandering the masses by presenting himself as a mob buster????

Just honest Italian businessmen trying for their piece of the American dream....

Yes, but it could re-constitute itself in a red state. Texas might not be the best choice though.

I agree, and part of current financial problem will go away once the NRA is out of NY, which has been hostile to their existence. The NRA invested a lot of money in the last election, including in the Georgia run off. Then there have been the civil lawsuits that took a chunk, as well as some corporations distancing themselves from the NRA and all of those donation, which are much more revenue than the membership dues bring in. The part of the problem is clearly about cancel culture, much of it pushed by entities like Twitter, Google, and the left media which is hostile to the 2nd Amendment... as well as the first amendment.

But to all of the lefties out there right now licking their chops in delight, I will remind them that individual gun ownership is UP--- WAAAAAY UP in this country, and all of those people who in the last few years have purchased their first firearms, as well as tens of thousands right as we speak trying to buy gun but can't find them due to the lack of supply from high demand. Well, do you think these are not potential NEW NRA members in the making? People who have exercised their civil rights to owning a firearm and investing money, will likely want to support that right going forward.

Wayne LaPierre needs to step aside or be forced aside. He is pretty much damaged goods right now, and not because his stands on the 2nd Amendment, but because of the appearance of a lavish lifestyle which has annoyed many NRA members. I know MANY NRA members who stopped contributing to the NRA due to LaPierre. But that didn't stop them from contributing to other 2nd Amendment legal defense groups. I believe if La Pierre steps aside, much more support will come back to the NRA.

Think of it like a person's church. If at some point they don't agree with the pastor, they don't change their religion, they just find a different church. Get a better "pastor" is all I'm saying the NRA needs.

Well, yes. Now here comes the "but"...

If the state is determined to have such a training course (and test), who would you rather be administering it? A somewhat sympathetic party such as the NRA, or a laterally transferred functionary from the DMV (or whatever you call it)? I'm painfully aware that my state was dragged kicking and screaming into having a permitted privilege at all. Too many in our state bureaucracy would view a roadblock as a feature.
