The partial government shutdown has "complicated" repairs for the National Christmas Tree, a spokesperson said on Sunday. The tree was damaged when a man tried to climb it on Friday.

The National Park Service on Sunday announced that the Christmas tree will stay dark during the shutdown, which is expected to be lengthy.

Complicated repairs??!!? Its fricken Christmas tree with light strings!?!? My mother in law who is not mechanically inclined in the least can fix the damn thing in a couple of hours while drinking wine and chatting with people. Bloody hell.

The National Christmas Tree near the White House was closed on Friday evening, after a man managed to climb 15 to 20 feet up the tree.

The incident happened at about 5:45 p.m.

Cell phone video taken by witnesses shows the moment the man began to climb the tree at President’s Park. In the video, a child in the crowd can be heard asking “What is he doing? Why is doing that to the tree?”

The U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Park Police and D.C. Fire & EMS quickly responded and closed the National Christmas Tree to visitors.

“That’s when we found out that someone had climbed the tree,” said Scott Sceehan, who was surprised to see the popular tourist attraction shut down just days before Christmas. “I don’t know why you do that, I guess to get some attention.”

Really? Are we fighting about it? Unless we become Mexico then you can kick and scream but enough! Why do we have United States boarder patrol anyway because it’s obviously they’re useless to democrats!
 
WASHINGTON — The lights on the National Christmas Tree may flicker on and off Sunday as the National Park Service assesses damage to the tree.

The hope is that the lights will be on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Jenny Anzelmo-Sarles, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service, said NPS is working on a partnership with the National Park Foundation that would allow for NPS to get the lights repaired.

The National Park Foundation is providing materials and labor for the restoration, Anzelmo-Sarles said.

Some of the lights on the Colorado blue spruce are still damaged after a man climbed the tree and refused to come down for almost an hour Friday

Anzelmo-Sarles said that the government shutdown made it more difficult to repair the damaged sections.
