Anyone who wishes can look up the clinical definition of narcissism. They can then make use of any number of actual quotes of President of the United States of America Donald Trump, either spoken or twittered, and check whichever boxes apply.

So far, nothing new here. But let's add an old adage: power corrupts.

An area not given much serious attention yet is the corrupting effect of narcissism coupled with power on those surrounding the narcissist.

We have a chance to observe this clearly and close up in the present on-going Republican Party convention.

It's an interesting phenomenon.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Narcissist: A woman who is willing to sacrifice any number of insignificant lives in Benghazi just to maintain a perfect image in front of TV cameras.

I don't think anyone but a narcissist would subject himself or herself to the grueling 18 month constant media attention that is (or was until recently) the modern presidential campaign.

I am sure Joe Biden thinks he is absolutely the best person to be president, indeed the only possible choice if America itself is to survive. As did everyone else who ever got a major party nomination in the last say 40 years.

Power, aristocracy, and corruption are not required prerequisites for narcissism. Being in any degree of power is not a prerequisite either.

All we are talking about here is a personality disorder, in which a person has an inflates sense of self-importance.

By that standard Trump does clearly apply to this discussion, not just in appearance and stature but also his 'it is all me' attitude on anything that could be deemed a success even if it is made up via political convenience.

However this also applies to the likes of Nancy Pelosi in terms of both self-determined importance and even claiming at one point Congress was more important than the other three branches of our federal government. As another poster pointed out, this also applies to Hillary Clinton. It does not get anymore party aristocratic than Hillary, doubled down with the idea that her loss is everyone else's fault but her own.

Just illustrating this is not necessarily a political distinction either right or left.

Where we may or may not have a concern is Biden, then again narcissism is not a light switch. There are degrees to the disorder and it may be debatable where Biden looks at himself in the party aristocratic sense.

As for why a narcissist would subject themselves to power... because it feeds the disorder, clearly.
