Aww, the thread title is misleading; My "favorite dictator" would be Gauis Julius Ceasar. Those guys were a bunch of dogmatic, socialist (mostly) sociopaths.

Hmm..."Favorite" in what sense?

Idi Amin is the most interesting, because he was so delightfully evil. He was a cannibal for Christ's sake.

Of long-term damage to their own country, it's Stalin hands-down (although if we expand the list to include others who aren't listed, it would be Kim il-Sung and Kim Jong-il).

But of the ones listed, I'm probably the closest politically to Augusto Pinochet. So he's my "favorite" in that sense.

Qin Shi Huang Di. Yeah he did alot of good things but he also burried enough people to make 2 walls of China.
